About this ebook

When Sherry decides she wants a puppy, she finds Metro, a tiny, engaging puppy at the local animal shelter. It’s love at first sight for both of them, and when Sherry takes Metro home and introduces the playful puppy to Butterscotch, Sherry’s long-time cat, the three become a family. Metro helps plant a veggie garden, takes a walk at midnight, and even goes ballroom dancing!

Metro Comes Home is the first in a series of beautifully illustrated children’s books about Metro’s fun-filled doggy adventures. These stories were written to honor the memory of a lovable little dog named Metro and all the wonderful dogs who grace our lives.

    The Debate

This is the story about a lovable little dog and her human mom, Sherry.

Sherry liked cats better than dogs. Her brother, Richie, liked dogs better than cats. When they were younger, sometimes they had debates on which animal was better.

Sherry would say: Cats are better because they take baths by licking their paws. The paws get wet and they rub their paws on their cute little faces, and then they are nice and clean.

Richie would say: Dogs are better because they are loyal and they love you.

Sherry would say: Cats are better because they have eyes that glow in the dark.

Richie would say: Dogs are better because they are loyal and they love you.

Sherry would say: Cats are better because when they are content, they purr and sound like a motorboat.

Richie would say: Dogs are better because they are loyal and they love you.

Sherry would say: Cats are better because they have eyes that see in the dark.

Richie would say: Dogs are better because they are loyal and they love you.

Sherry felt a little frustrated. She said, Hello?! Richie? Are you a robot?

She tapped her brother's head. I am giving you very good reasons why cats are better than dogs, but you are saying the same old thing over and over.

Richie laughed and tapped Sherry's head, Hello?! Sherry? Aren't you listening? Don't you know love and loyalty are the most important things?

No, at the time, Sherry did not know this. Personally, she thought being able to make a sound like a motorboat and having eyes that glow and see in the dark were very cool features. She felt sure she was right. Richie was certain he was right.

But, years later, after Sherry had Metro for a few days, she realized Richie had been right all along. (Although she still loved kitties very much. And cats truly are much better than dogs for some people.)

Sherry remembered to tell Richie that he had won the debate. This is a very nice thing to do. If you disagree with someone about what they have told you and then you change your mind, don't keep it a secret. Tell the other person they were right and they will feel glad.

    Sherry

Sherry lived in a cheerful yellow house on a tree-lined street called Heathdale, in a town called Covina, California. She had lived in this house all her life. She was now seventeen years old. She had blue eyes and honey-colored hair that curled softly at her shoulders.

She deeply missed both of her parents and thought of them often. Sherry's father had died when she was fourteen years old. Her mother had recently passed away.

She had great memories of her mom and dad. Her dad liked to make up funny rhymes, riddles, and little songs. When she
