She attended the Bullock County High School, graduating in 1975, and beco...view moreThirlena Rivera was born on January 30, 1957. Born and reared in the small town of Union Springs, Alabama. She attended the Bullock County High School, graduating in 1975, and becoming a freshman at Alabama State University where she pursued a degree in Business Administration. Two years later Thirlena transferred to Wayne State University to study Psychology. She also studied at Mary Grove College where she earned a B.A. in Psychology. She furthered her education at the University of Detroit and later Center for Humanistic Studies where she earned a Master of Arts Degree in Humanistic and Clinical Psychology. Since embarking on her career as a clinical psychologist and therapist, Thirlena has worked in several jobs including a state psychiatry hospital, private counseling, jails, prisons, and the Commission for Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Her expertise is in Childhood Sexual Abuse and Substance Abuse. Thirlena is also the author a previously published book entitled “Mix Nuts and Character Cake.” She has also penned several articles on the criminal justice system. Ms. Rivera retired from Metro State Prison last year after working more than thirty years as a psychologist/counselor.view less
