About this ebook

Blake Starwater is captain of the starship Perilous. Traveling along with him are the frisky Felioness, Kitty, and the cynical robot, OMBot. Together they soar between the numerous Known Worlds, taking on the jobs that other space crews won't do. The risky jobs. The dangerous jobs. The sometimes less-than-legal jobs.

The crew of the Perilous is sought out for the skills of their former systems adept, Lillian Stone. Undeterred by her absence, the furry client offers them the job anyway, albeit now slightly altered. Instead of breaking into a corporate computer system, they'll be breaking directly into the company's headquarters. Lives are on the line as the crew attempt to help expose a corrupt political candidate and a deadly technology being rushed towards completion.

Can Blake and Kitty manage to infiltrate the high-tech company undetected, or will their subterfuge be exposed? An intoxicating tale of conspiracy and suspense!

Alpert L Pine

Alpert L Pine lives and writes in a small cabin, off the grid, in the Northwest United States. Once per week, he treks to the nearest town on foot—rain, snow or shine—and spends the day transferring his material into a digital format, with the help of the kindly librarians whom he has befriended. When he's not writing, he spends much of his time with a metal detector, looking for a rumored Templar treasure which is said to be buried somewhere nearby. To date, he's found a few nails, an old Liberty head penny, and a strange amulet. For free stories, news about past and future releases, and more, visit his website: AlpertLPine.com

The burgers at Max's were grown onsite. Their slogan, pasted onto the sign out front, right underneath Max's name, declared, You can taste the difference!

Kitty growled as the waiter-bot placed a burger-laden plate on the table in front of her companion. Blake Starwater glanced up from the massive double-decker burger. What?

Revolting, said the Felioness, turning her cat-like nose up in disgust. The waiter-bot set a large tray of fried potatoes in between the pair.

You know, said Blake, snagging one of the fries and munching on it, you can infect my food with your negative energy. How about laying off?

You don't need me to infect your plate of murdered faux-beef.

Kitty, said Blake, "be sensible. You can't murder something that isn't really a lifeform. And it is real beef. It's just grown beef. He thumbed over his shoulder in the direction of the kitchen. The vats are right here onsite, we can go look at them if you—"

Kitty hissed. Blake put his hands up in surrender.

The waiter-bot, having placed a dish of tunameal in front of the Felioness and refilled their drinks, was now backing politely away. Enjoy your meal, it said mechanically, before hobbling off towards the kitchen.

Anyways, said Blake, waving a hand at Kitty's dish. You're eating tuna. Isn't that even worse than me eating some unintelligent blob of unaware meat?

Hardly. First of all, my natural tuna versus your mutant, grown-in-the-kitchen-of-a-run-down-diner so-called beef is not even close to the same thing. Secondly, tuna is a fish. And fish are no more intelligent than your mindless blob of meat there.

Hey, that's not cool, Kitty. I have a friend who's a Tunaman. Are you saying—

I'm not eating a Tunaman, am I? For emphasis, she dipped one of the potato fries into the tunameal and then placed it in her mouth. She began chewing, loudly.

Sighing, Blake reached for his glass. He took a sip of the rabbithop therein, set the drink down, and wiped his lips. After a moment spent sizing it up, Blake took the giant burger with both hands, and brought it towards his mouth. He looked over the huge beef sandwich at Kitty. Can I just eat my burger without your judgement, please?

The Felioness dipped another potato into her tunameal. I don't know. Can you?

Tell me again about this secret job we've got? said Kitty.

Blake Starwater and the Felioness walked through the winding streets of Pandora City; they were just east of
