The Big Lie about Tattoos
()
About this ebook
When I was younger, I got a tattoo, the first thing that happened to me, was I got approached by a well meaning Christian, whom, in a very dominant way, pointed out to me that by my having a tattoo, it's going to send me to Hell. He said, "God is against His people, getting tattoos," Then he quoted the passage from, Leviticus 19:28. This sent me into a deep depression, feeling I've let God down, and now He was very upset with me. This episode almost cost me my salvation, again, I had just come back to the Lord, Now this? Thank God for His kindness, The Lord had me study the Bible, and read the chapter in Leviticus 19, in context. I've had so many debates through the years, over the issue of Christians getting tattoos. You would be shocked by the things I've heard, born again believers say, and, how heated their emotions got when this issue was brought up. It drove me to start searching the internet for information that will help me answer the question. I hit a dead end, mainly because there are hardly any articles, that I could find, that gave any positive input on the subject. If something is one-sided, how could it be answered? There were a few articles that were for it, very few, I also found one book, it was way out there, and very negative. The Lord proceeded to teach me the truth about born again believers having or getting tattoos. Many years later, he led me to write this book, 'The Big Lie about Tattoos’ I pray you will read this with an open heart, and a meditative mindset.

I began writing in my late teenage years. I had no intention of writing books and publishing them. The Lord placed on my heart to begin writing my first book in 2013; it took me over a year to write it. Many people have told me that when they started reading my first book “Broken Door”, it was hard for them to put it aside. Then the Lord gave me the unction to write my second book, “Faith is What?” Not long after I finished ‘Broken Door.’ ‘The Big Lie about Tattoos” is my third book as of this year 2016.I have worked in the ministry since 1985; I started preaching in prisons, in retirement homes and as a guest speaker for many churches. In addition, I started preaching out in the streets, at bars, parks, restaurants; I would bring my guitar to the parks and restaurants and sing songs that the Lord had me write. I was age 54; when the Lord led me to start writing books, I’m now 64; I’ve had some people tell me I’m just a keyboard preacher, but, I believe in that old saying,” The pen is mightier than the sword.” Comments are welcome, rather they are positive or negative. Thank YouMichael Dunhill

CHAPTER 1
THE LAW SAID SO RIGHT?
It makes me sad to think that God’s people would go out of their way to place believers in a state of confusion, shame and embarrassment. But, that is exactly what the false teaching against tattoos is doing. I’ve heard for years, many arguments trying to persuade good born again believers to feel ashamed for making the decision to get a tattoo, and if a person has one already, they are made to feel like God is just being tolerant with them, Thus, the reason for me writing this book.
What does the law of God say about tattoos? Actually nothing, but, the so called great scholars, whom I call false teachers, they have a whole different theory. They base their theory on one passage that is found in the Old Testament, this is found in
Leviticus 19:28
28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord (KJV)
Now, if this was all we were to read, we would arrive to the conclusion that this passage was talking about tattoos. If we read it very carefully, we’ll see what it’s really saying. It says, Cuttings in your flesh for the dead.
Also, if you look even closer, you’ll find that after it says dead
there’s a comma, not a period, as most people know, a comma means that it’s one whole statement.
A lot of people try in their attempt to prove that tattooing is forbidden by God, will quote this passage as though it were two separate statements, like, Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead. Nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.
Then they will start to explain that people were cutting themselves for the dead, and also they were putting pictures on themselves, with ink, and of course they will use the word tattoo. But, the passage clearly reads that cuttings in your flesh, nor print any marks upon you, are the same statement, cuttings and marks came from the same source, that could have been a sharp rock or a nail, but, there were not any pictures involved or ink.
I like the way Matthew Poole’s commentary explains it:
MATTHEW POOLE’S COMMENTARY
Any cuttings in your flesh, which the Gentiles commonly did both in the worship of their idols, and in their solemn mournings, Jeremiah 16:6.
For the dead; Heb. For a soul, i.e. Either,
1. Improperly, for a dead body; as that word is sometimes used, as Leviticus 19:28 21:1 Numbers 6:6: or,
2. Properly, for the soul; Ye shall not cut your flesh or your bodies, for your souls, or upon pretense of doing your souls any good, either in way of mortification, or in the worship of God, as they did, 1 Kings 18:28, in like manner as others were willing to give to God the fruit of their body for the sin of their soul, Micah 6:7. (End of Commentary)
Jewish people were taught that a soul does not die in death, there was no such thing of not existing after death on this earth, even Jesus taught everlasting life.
I’ve heard so many things against tattoos; one argument that is used for it is that we don’t have to live by the Old Testament Law anymore. This is true to a point, but, there are some of the old laws that we still live by. Jesus taught that he didn’t come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it, we can find this in:
Matthew Ch. 5 V.17 (KJV)
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
Jesus was talking about Himself here, He was saying that the Law of old times that was told by the Prophets, is still true, to a point, but as he continued talking, you’ll understand what I meant by; To a point.
Read with me, in:
Matthew Ch 5 V.20 (KJV)
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shall not
