God damn it, Dirk swore to himself. It was a lonely night on an even lonlier stretch of highway. The sky was a thick black blanket of clouds without even the moon to shine through. The headlights of his beat up old sedan shone on the woman and her Mercedes like searchlights. She was leaning over the open trunk of her car, and looked up at him as he slowed down to ease past her on the road. She was blonde, tall, and showing a lot of leg in a black mini-dress. He didn't register much more than that before he pulled onto the shoulder just past her.

What the hell are you doing? he asked his reflection in the mirror. He was rakishly handsome, with thick black hair and dark, deep-set eyes. He had a wife, Gloria, wating for him at home. She was pretty, with a body that wouldn't quit, but Dirk had always been a leg man. And the blonde damsel in distress looked like she had a pair that went for miles. He pulled off his wedding ring and stashed it in the glove box. He took a deep breath to gear up his courage, lit a cigarette, then climbed out onto the pavement. The woman peeked at him from around her silver little car.

Have a flat? he asked casually, and took a good look at her. She was something to look at, all right, and he swept his dark eyes up from bottom to top. She had strappy black heels and sheer black hose, something Dirk rarely saw any more.
