Joseph straightened his simple green tie with a frown. He hated wearing the stupid things. Who thought that wearing a brightly colored noose around your neck constituted fashion? He paced back and forth as best he could in his little office. With his long stride, he could only take about two steps in either direction.

You doing all right in there, Joe? Carla asked as she poked her head into his door. She was a plump, grandmotherly sort of woman. She was always sticking her nose into people's business, the queen of office gossip. Joseph supposed that was natural, for the Head of Human Resources.
