    Dancing With Strangers

    by C.V. Walter

I checked my makeup in the mirror again as my husband and I waited for the couple we were supposed to go out with that night to show up. I’d never met George and Paula before and I was hoping to make a good impression.

Would you relax? John said, coming up behind me and putting his hands on my shoulder. You’re acting like you’re waiting for a date.

I shook my head. This kinda feels like a date, John. I’m always nervous meeting new people and these are new people you met online. I’m not even sure how you talked me into letting them pick us up.

George seems like a nice guy and I’m sure you’ll like Paula, he told me. They’re a little older than the people I usually hang out with but they’re just right for you and they offered to show us around town so we don’t feel so much like strangers, okay?

I heard a car pull up and looked out the front window to see two people walking up to our door. John answered the knock while I put my shoes on and performed introductions when I went to join him at the door. George was a little shorter than John and only an inch or two taller than me in my heels. He looked very good for being in his late thirties, with only a little gray showing in his wavy black hair and
