This small book renders the forays of the human heart into poetic journeys. The journeys of a serious man who has dedicated his life to help humanity, and the distractions of love that come his way. The poems reveal the wanderings of the heart in an open and honest manner. The writer is not speaking, it is his emotions, his trapped heart as it struggles to find requital for the offerings it makes and then as it struggles to heal.

Humorous at times, the soul searching in these poems also brings to us our own similar experiences, in many sections, you will feel that the author is describing your own emotions as he articulates the "love" experience that we all go through from time to time.

Keysar Trad is one of Australia's best known figures.

Trad has been a spokesman on issues relating to Islam and the Muslim community for more than 20 years. In the process he has given thousands of interviews and numerous background briefings to media and other organisations.

For nearly two decades, he delivered numerous cultural and religious briefings to community groups, churches, government and quasi-government bodies. He has also been a regular speaker at various events including peace and human rights rallies and gatherings.

Trad has shared platforms with highly accomplished Muslim and non Muslim speakers dealing with both religious and political issues.

Trad has translated several books about Islam and written and translated numerous articles on issues pertaining to Islam. His writings include essays on the common grounds between Islam and other faiths.

He is the founder of the Sydney based Islamic Friendship Association of Australia.

INTRODUCTION

How It All Starts

The best way to explain these poems is to say that they reflect a chase for an ideal that is just beyond reach. This is not because it is not there, but rather, because the parameters change along the journey to see if what is there meets the criteria for the ideal.

In this journey, I found my heart mellowing and mellowing to the point that it looks to envelope the world with nothing but love and compassion.

I am grateful to the individuals who triggered these words and to the family that put up with me as I traversed this difficult journey, especially my wife who saw me mellow with all these experiences. The journey was a Series of slides into a number of recesses, perhaps even into an abyss or two.

Naturally, the journey is never all pain, it is a combination of torment and hope, one moment, you feel buoyed, the next you feel anxious and agitated that the reaction is not what you had hoped.

Every time I would reflect on the pain, I find that an important milestone has been reached, a treasure has been discovered and a realisation that we grow with every pain as I have written in a poem that belongs in a different collection, perhaps in another book.

These words and their underlying emotions emanated during times of pressure, pressure to do more to help my fellow human beings as I explain in the various sections. The experiences leading to the poems might appear like escapades, certainly, there is an element of escape, but there are also raw emotions that sought to be unleashed to help make a little more sense of our purpose in this worldly life.

It all starts with a dream, a dream that a single individual can do something to help save the world. Fittingly, the first poem I offer was a real dream, a dream that a mellow heart would chase again and again as you will see.

I pray that you find them enjoyable and enriching.

SECTION ONE

Looking For A Princess

When I lay my head down,

after I finish my pillow prayer:

I hope for some princess to whisk me away.

She rarely comes; I don't know why,

except for a few moments

in the afternoon of the yester;

she kissed me, just ever so briefly,

a gentle dry kiss, just below my lips,

in that soft spot that young women ignore,

just below my lips.

Then with utter disappointment,

the dream was no more,

after rubbing my shoulders

with hands ever so gentle,

I was awakened; no longer away.

I tried to sleep, tried and tried again,

I tried to go into that dream,

that dream to that moment,

just before I was snatched from her embrace.

But it was gone, I could no longer find her address,

I searched again when night came,

I searched again in the mid morning,

I will search again tonight.

Pray tell if you know her address,

I shall be waiting for her gentle embrace.
