Amateur to Pro - Jill Bunny
Introduction
Here you are on your new journey. You have decided to flip a page in your life and try, or at least consider, something new—entering a fitness competition.
You have my congratulations, because this is the first step into a beautiful new chapter in your life!
Before anything else, I’d like you to take a few quiet moments and think about why you want to do this. Ask yourself, Why do I want to compete? What do I expect to get out of this journey?
Let me start by telling you my own reasons. I had just gone through a divorce and moved back to Canada from the United Kingdom. I wanted to rebuild my self-esteem and confidence, to find something for myself. I decided to enter a bikini competition to prove to myself—and, okay, to my ex-husband as well—that I was beautiful, strong, and independent.
I trained for twelve weeks and walked on to the stage for the first time with my entire family present. They weren’t too sure about the whole industry, but they were so happy to see their girl smile. I was hooked. It gave me a thrill, a purpose, and an outlet.
Four years later, I have competed and won on the biggest stages, including the Arnold Classic, Amateur Olympia in Liverpool, and the CBBF Canadian Nationals.
In my years of experience, I have learned many useful techniques to help improve my success in competitions, as well as my career longevity and my mental well-being. I want to share my knowledge with you, to improve your entire competition experience from the very start.
So dive in with me. Highlight, make notes, find out what you know and what you need to know. And together, we will make sure you go from an amateur to a pro in no time!
About Me
My name is Jill Bunny, amateur bikini competitor. I like to think of myself as a professional International Fitness and Bodybuilding (IFBB) athlete. I might not have the card that says so, but I believe in my heart that I conduct myself like one every day.
I have been competing since 2012, and throughout the years, I have tried, developed, and mastered different training, dieting, and aesthetic regimes. Some people would rather keep their knowledge a secret, but that’s just not me.
You do not have to be an IFBB pro to live like one. So why not start your amateur career by training like a pro? I have been doing it for many years, and have loved every minute of it! It’s never too early to conduct yourself like a professional. And really, it’s the only way you’ll be likely to will win an honor on the competition stage yourself.
I created this book to help you, as a new bikini or figure athlete, to improve your chances in the industry by giving you my secrets. I hope this will help you to enjoy your journey and answer some of your questions, so that you aren’t lost on the way.
So, Miss Future Pro...Let’s get started!
So You Want to Compete
You have a ripped, tanned body, and luscious locks and makeup. All eyes are on you as you walk onto the stage in a sparkling bikini and heels. Your family and friends are cheering as they watch you nail your poses. The judges call you out front and center—and award you with your trophy! Your Facebook profile is full of pictures of you winning, your new profile picture hits two hundred likes, people from high school start messaging...What a day! What a weekend!
But only for the weekend. One week later, reality sinks in. Everyone has forgotten about your accomplishment and they have moved on to the next best Facebook post. That’s reality.
Why Compete?
Before you commit countless hours of your time prepping food and training, ask yourself, Why am I going to compete?
Is it to improve yourself and challenge your body and mind, to win, to prove to an ex-boyfriend that you are beautiful, to lose weight after giving birth...or do you just want to just feel hot wearing a bikini?
We all compete for our own reasons. And when you know the true reasons you want to compete, you will be better able to prep yourself for the show. If the only reason you’re competing is to win, get ready for some numbing disappointment. You need to compete for yourself above all. Then, regardless of your placing at shows, you’ll get real gratification from this sport.
Let me tell you a little more about why I started to compete. I weighed 95 pounds and had just moved back from the UK. I was divorced, battling an eating disorder, and feeling like there was no reason to live. I went for a walk one day by the lake and stopped to flip through a copy of Oxygen Magazine.
In the magazine, I saw photos of women standing on stages with ripped bodies under their bikinis. These women looked so beautiful and confident, and I thought to myself...I can do this!
I decided to train for one and show my ex how
