Chapter One

The whole town of Hollow’s Grove was in a flurry of excitement with the news of Brock Black’s return. He’d been gone for several tours in Afghanistan since he turned eighteen. Oftentimes, shifters got the most dangerous missions. So, when they returned home in one piece, it was a chance for the townspeople to really celebrate. Only one person in Hollow’s Grove couldn’t be bothered about Brock’s return—Hope West.

As a kid, Brock always made fun of her along with his brothers. His brothers were so close that they even enlisted in the Navy together.  And each of them became Navy SEALs. She couldn’t stand the Black brothers, but all of the lonely housewives of Hollow’s Grove got dressed up in their fanciest dresses just for tonight.

Even Hope couldn’t deny that Brock was easy on the eyes, with his 6’4 frame, jet black hair, wicked sense of humor, perfect grin and these eerie bright yellow eyes.  However, to Hope, he was nothing but a no good arrogant and crass son-of-a-bitch. She couldn’t have been any happier, the day he left for the Navy. And, she wished he’d never come back.

But now, he was back.

And Hope wanted to get back home before the Black brothers came strutting into the Nine Lives Bowling Alley looking to start trouble. It wasn’t that Hope hated shifters, either. It just seemed like panther shifters were especially rude, loud and always getting into brawls. But the truth was she’d have no way to avoid it, especially since she worked as a cashier at the Nine Lives Bowling Alley. She was already there, setting up the tables for the guests.

Did you double check the ice machine? Hope’s manager Big Gus asked her.
