About this ebook

Cameron resents his moose alter ego. He feels ugly and awkward, and being a warden in Algonquin Park is a poor substitute for his career as a cop.
Plus, it's mating season. Not the safest time to discover that Gabriel, the missing hiker he's searching for, is a sexy Latino cougar shifter with emotional baggage and a fetish for hunky prey with big antlers. Cameron has never felt so desired—or so dominant.
Is lust between prey and predator a deadly taboo or the key to soothing their savage beasts?

    One: Cameron

Cameron Berglund was a tall shambling man on the wrong side of thirty with thick dark brown hair and a long sad oval face. All awkward limbs and bulging knees and elbows. Broad shoulders like he'd left the coat hanger in his shirt when he put it on. He knew he'd look better if he could put some weight on but the muscles he built up were long lean ropes that added strength without bulk. Ducking under doorways was second nature and he played basketball as an obligation rather than for enjoyment.

It was little wonder his friends on the force had nicknamed him Moose. If they only knew.

Cameron scowled at his reflection in the bedroom mirror then grinned. Were the big ivory blocks in his mouth getting larger? Why did his hair have to stick up at odd angles? There were some days he could accept what he was but today was not one of them. He'd spent too damn long in front of a screen trying to wrap his head around the biology and physics of water management. In theory, a field scientist was similar to a police detective but every environmental science course he took told him otherwise. Taking three summer courses along with his duties as a park warden had been brutal. It was mid-September now and he was down to one course. Didn't feel like he'd had a summer at all. He missed the warm weather. He missed the wilderness.

He had to let the beast out.

Cameron took a seat at the front booth in the diner down the street from his house. The town only had one street and one diner so it wasn't like he could get lost. So different from living in Ottawa. But there was no place for the beast in a big city full of fast moving, evil smelling vehicles and hard concrete.

Mendel slid a coffee and an orange juice onto the table. How's our park warden today?

Cameron shook his head. Sick of studying.

    Bacon and eggs? Or pancakes?

    Sunny, sausages, rye toast.

    Got it.

Cameron tried not to stare at Mendel's ass as the smaller man glided down the aisle between the booths. Mendel had a body that wouldn't quit and was so graceful it almost hurt to watch him. As the only other gay man in town it seemed like they were destined for each other. But seemed like only got you so far. Mendel had something in his past that he was avoiding—why else had he moved here from Montreal?—and Cameron didn't think adding his own secrets to the pile would work. It was one thing to come
