Jane and Adam have spent a lot of time together, but never had a friendship with each other.

One day that all changes and they go from strangers to lovers. Jane is tempted by a new guy at school who is in the grade below her. He is intelligent and great at acting just like her. Jane will have to choose who she likes more before it's too late. Ruth Mini

Hello, my name is Ruth Mini. I wrote a book called “Sad Songs and Gray Dresses.” I love watching movies and taking pictures. My website launched in 2008, and in 11 long years, my website has changed focus over the years. I decided to focus my website on all things library related. That includes my local library and my mobile library. There are several organizations that I was born into through my family lineage. These organizations aren’t just extracurricular activities; this is my life. This is my connection to my ancestors who helped found the City of San Antonio. Very few young people in my family are interested in genealogical research and oral histories, so I’ve taken upon myself to capture these stories on film so that future generations can hear these stories. My goal is to one day publish the stories and lives of all my ancestors even if it takes the rest of my life. I’m the one who keeps searching even after years of finding nothing. You may not be aware of it yet, but I’m about to take over the world. I’m capable of accomplishing big things, it’s just a matter of time. My life is just beginning and I’ve already done so much. Remember my name because pretty soon you won’t be able to forget it.

    CHAPTER ONE

She stared into her vanity mirror as she put another cigarette in her mouth. You’re on in 15 minutes, Jane. yelled the stagehand as he passed her dressing room.

She let out a puff of smoke and stood up. She walked over to the dress they forced her to wear. She made a face and rolled her eyes.

Why did I ever let anyone talk me into doing this? Reluctantly, she put her dress on slowly and scanned herself in the mirror looking for any small imperfections. She found three. There’s a small rip at the bottom dead center. The left strap is hanging on for dear life. The zipper doesn’t go up all the way. She sighed and put the cigarette back in her mouth.

What does it matter anyway? The audience will never notice. No one ever does. She walked towards the door, opened it, and poked her head out to see if anyone was in the hallway.

As soon as she was sure there was no one there, she walked down the hall towards the stage. She hesitantly inhaled another puff of smoke. She listened to the actors’ dialogue waiting for her cue.

Maybe I don’t need you anymore, said a girl on the verge of crying.

The second actor quickly picked the girl up from the floor. But I need you… I love you.

That was her cue to get ready to make her entrance. Jane walked over to the handmade door that the stagehands built and waited for the next cue. The girl fell to the floor again. It was slowly getting to her part. She put out the cigarette that was in her hand and rang the makeshift doorbell. The male actor ran to the door, looked through the peephole, and sighed heavily.

The female actress looked up at him. Is that her? Did you bring her here? If that’s her, then I’m leaving you… forever. She yelled, making her cry even harder. Even though she was only acting, she was good at making herself cry on cue.

Jane pushed open the door without warning. The actress looked up again for a moment but started to cry even harder this time. Jane walked over to the crying actress and said Suck it up, honey. He doesn’t want you anymore. Get over it. He never loved you.

The actress on the floor struggled to stand back up. She managed to push the words out of her mouth with all that crying she had just done.

You’re really going to pick her over me? After everything we've shared? She probably doesn’t even love you. She won’t ever love you as much as I did. I hope you’re happy with her. It’s over. It’s over… She ran out of the handmade door, crying loudly.

Jane turned back to the actor. Don’t worry about that crazy girl. You don’t need her. You need me. She gently touched his face and stared deeply into his eyes. She leaned forward for their kiss. As their lips were inches apart, the stagehands lowered the curtain.

Jane let go of him quickly. Thank God this is finally over. She brushed off her dress while he adjusted his jacket.

Not bad tonight. I almost believed you wanted to kiss me.

She gave him a dirty look. Yeah, not bad for someone who would rather be anywhere else but here. Trust me, it was only acting, she said angrily.

He awkwardly picked up a few of his things. I just don’t understand why you hate acting so much. You’re an outstanding actress given the right role. He paused slightly.

Let me take you out to dinner. I want to see the pretty girl underneath that tough exterior. He stopped and looked up at her, waiting for her response.

Well good luck, because this girl won’t be showing herself tonight.

She left in a hurry through the handmade door and made her way through a crowd of the rest of the cast to her dressing room. She plopped down in front of her vanity mirror and put her face in her cupped hands. Who does that guy think he is? How could he ask me out like that? Suddenly, she felt someone standing there in the doorway. She looked up and there he was, the actor from the play, Adam.

    Well…? he asked anxiously.

Well, what? Jane looked at him with tired eyes.

I asked you if you wanted to get a bite to eat with me tonight, Adam said nervously.

I specifically remember you telling me to go out with you. I don’t recall you asking me anything, Jane replied annoyed.

He looked around the room nervously, looking for something
