Chapter 1
Gabby stepped out of her car and turned to grab her bag when a hand covered her mouth. The body that slammed into her back was rock hard. All she could think was ‘this is not happening to me.’
Trying to push away she realized he was much stronger. Glancing around with her eyes only, she saw that none of her neighbors were outside. His breathing was even and calm, wishing she could say the same about hers.
It was at this moment that she realized that something was happening. An odd taste came into the back of her throat as she realized that the hand covering her mouth held a cloth with a chemical smell. Gabby’s vision started to blur and brain went fuzzy. Then her legs completely quit holding her body upright. She collapsed against him as the chemical knocked her out.
He pulled her up into his strong, capable arms and moved out to his truck which was parked beside the house. Gently, he laid her in the back seat and closed the door. Glancing around to make sure nobody saw him before he jumped in and started the engine. Pulling into the street, he headed to his house.
His mind kept going over the plan. Would she forgive him? Would this work? Could he go through with the whole plan? Did he have it in him to do what he needed to do? What would she do when she saw his face?
The traffic on the main highway was light this evening. He was glad for that. The risks of getting caught elevated if he had to stay in traffic very long. Quickly he glanced back to make sure she was alright. Her beauty captivated him and made him want her more than ever.
As he pulled into his driveway he opened the garage. Once inside with the door closed, he got out and opened the door to his home. He walked back to the truck and pulled her out as she groaned slightly telling him the chemical was wearing off. He didn’t use much, only enough to get her into his car. Carrying her into his home he continued up the stairs that led to the bedrooms where he’d set up a quiet room for her.
Laying her on the bed he checked the windows and closet, not taking any chances. She stirred slightly and he knew she’d be waking soon. He was ready for her fury, knowing it would be quick to come. Smiling he knew he’d enjoy her fury.
She was gorgeous when those green eyes sparked with anger and it would be toward him this time. He knew he deserved it but everything would be clear soon. Hopefully she’d forgive him when she knew the whole story. Until then, he’d just have to avoid her claws.
Deciding to get out of her reach, he sat in the chair that was situated in the corner. He’d make sure she was alright before he went downstairs to make some calls. As he watched her his body reacted to her nearness. He knew her so well which is why his superiors knew who was best for this assignment.
Finally she opened her eyes. Her mind was foggy and she had a headache. As her vision cleared she looked into the eyes of the man that had filled her dreams for the last two years. Was she having a nightmare?
That’s when her mind cleared to a reasonable level and it hit her that she wasn’t at home. She turned her head to check out the room. It was a nice room, but it definitely wasn’t hers. Sitting up a little too fast, she grabbed her head, groaning as she closed her eyes.
When the spinning in her head quit, she turned to look at him as he sat in the corner. He was sitting forward in the chair with his head propped on his hands. Who did he think he was and what was she doing in this strange room? Panic, then sudden swift anger took over.
Adam! What am I doing here? Have you lost your mind? Why is my head pounding?
She said in rapid fury, grabbing her head again as the raised voice made it pound even harder.
He took a deep breath and spoke. I brought you here because you’re in danger. I’m in the specials ops and you’re now in my protective custody.
He stood up, but stayed out of her reach. As for the pounding in your head, it’s caused by the chemical used to knock you out. It will pass in about an hour.
He kept his comments
