Prelude
Her heels clicked as if she was on a mission, like it was the tick before an explosion. Her heart a murderously beat, matching the click of her heels as she walked across the parking lot towards him. Stan stood there looking fine as ever, he wore a crisp white t-shirt, some jeans that didnt sagg because he was grown enough to wear a belt. She licked her lips and contemplated turning around and going back. She stopped, was she really tell the only man in her life for the past four years this? Her stomach pulled acrobatic twists, making her want not continue and rethink how she should say this. She knew she had to tell him, there was nothing easy about saying this, she just had to come straight out with it. She had thought all day of the right way to get this off her chest, but no matter how she put the words in order they still didn’t sound right.
As he turned towards her, she saw his big koolaid smile with straight pearly white teeth and soft lips which made her legs feel like spaghetti. She paused again and looked for an out, someway to get out, as she looked at him, he was fully turned to her waiting on her to walk up. She kept walking, trying to remain as confident as she always looked. She loved him deeply and knew that his reaction would prove if her really loved her. She was afraid of something negative, she could feel it in the pit of her stomach. All the time together had nothing against this moment, this was a huge step towards in their relationship and could determine their future.
Hey Boo Boo,
he wrapped his long sculpted arms around her. There was no better feeling being nuzzled against his chest. His smell intoxicated her and made every part of her body wake up. She almost fell into it and had to pull back. He looked down puzzled, as he realized his affection wasn’t returned. What’s wrong?
We need to talk,
she shakily whispered, her arms were crossed and she tapped her foot nervously, she saw the look of concern come across his face. He stared at her as if he could read her mind, he wasnt used to this. He knew it had to be important, he grabbed her hand to lead her to his green SUV. As she walked to his truck she continued to replay several beginnings of a conversation in her mind. She knew she had to tell him, but how? Arriving at the vehicle, he opened her door stopping to look into her eyes. She instantly closed them dropping her head away from him as she climbed in.
Okay, what’s up?
After he climbed in the driver’s side, he lifted her face up to his, brushing loose strands of hair off her face. He stared hard enough as if he was trying to read what was wrong on her face, as if he could read her mind.
Dropping her head again, she grabbed his hand off her face and fondled his fingers in her lap. The answer wasnt in his hand, she kept repeating to herself. I really don’t know how to say this…
she paused, taking a deep breath and blurted, I’m pregnant.
As her words escaped her lips, he found that he held his breath. He knew she was going to say that. They had been sleeping with each other for about six months without a condom. It was his fault, since he decided to stop after using one for 4 years, he felt that she was his and he never thought about pregnancy. Pregnancy, she hadnt gotten pregnant in four years, how is she all of a sudden pregnant? The condom broke several times when they had sex and nothing happened then.
His wife’s face instantly popped into his mind, he hated at a moment like this that she would come to his mind. She would flip out for sure if she found this shit out. She was already tired of his bullshit, and even though he didnt give a fuck about her, he knew she would use his kids against him. She suspected him of cheating for years but she could never prove it. This would be just the ammunition she needed. His sons was all he had, that was his life, them and her. What the fuck was he going to do? He wanted to walk away from his wife, but he had to be sure. There was no way he would start a war over a joke, or a baby that wasnt his. He felt himself getting upset, what if she was playing him? What if this aint even his baby?
So, what do you want to do?
He asked after a few seconds of silence where it was like his moods went from one extreme to another. She felt the tension in the air, and was scared of what to say next. How can a man who loves you so much goes quickly to the look on his face. Like he was holding in a rage, anger, but why?
Well,
she inhaled, looking straight ahead, she was afraid to look him in the eye. I don’t know. I don’t think I could handle an abortion. What do you think?
She swallowed hard, turned back to him and searched his face for some kind of expression. It was his turn to avoid eye contact. He was angry, life was good just like this, why she had to bring a damn baby and confuse everything? Fuck, this baby has to go.
She stared at the mixed emotions on his face and was even more afraid than before she told him. She wanted to keep this baby, but didn’t want to jump out and say it first. Kids was always part of her plan, and she felt that at 24, now was the perfect time. She knew his situation, and didn’t like it, but she accepted it. Even though it doesnt make it any better, she didn’t find out until she was already in love, and, as messed up as it sounded, she didn’t know her wife, so in her eyes, she didn’t exist.
Are you sure it’s mine?
He harshly spat. Instantly her heart dropped in her stomach and tears filled her eyes. She grabbed at her chest, there was a pressure there.
She paused, ‘he just said that huh?’ She tilted her head at the ceiling as if she was in deep thought. She was stuck for a moment. Four years, four years she stayed through his bullshit, his marriage and his lies and he just… Did you really just ask me that? Why would you ask me that?
She was calm and said it barely over a whisper. She fought the tears that attempted to fall. She dropped her head to almost to shoulder high and looked at him, eyes peircing into his soul. You know I haven’t been with anyone other than you. You really said that?
She lost the battle with sorrow as her emotions took control and dropped down her face.
I’m sorry,
he grabbed her arm in an attempt pull her closer to him. I just have to be sure. I mean I still hear people talking about you and other dudes.
Snatching her arm from him, and whiping away her tears, she opened her door to get away from him. Just as quickly he ran around the truck grabbing her up into his arms.
Look woman, you will not run away from this conversation. We will talk this through, do you hear me?
His mind raced in five million directions trying to figure a way through this one. He knew he loved her but, he did not want to deal with the bullshit and war from his wife. He never loved that woman, he only married her to do the right thing because she got pregnant and he was taught to respect his mistakes.
Let me go,
she spat through clenched teeth. I’m not running away from the conversation. I’m walking away from you. The sight of you disgusts me. After all we have been through, and you have the nerve to come at me like this. Fuck you!
She broke free and rushed towards her car, her tears fell
