Jenny waved at the waiter as he passed their table in the bustling cafe.

‘I need a glass of wine!’

Anna laughed. ‘I thought you weren’t drinking today.’

‘That was before you dropped the bombshell about you and Beth.’

The waiter finally noticed Jenny’s frantic waving and approached the table. Once she had ordered a large glass of pinot grigio, she turned her attention back to Anna.

‘So you and Beth haven’t spoken for six months! That’s crazy. You guys are best friends.’

Were best friends,’ Anna corrected her. ‘You’ve been away for a long time, things have changed since then.’

Jenny smiled at the waiter as he delivered her wine and immediately took a large sip.

‘You and I spoke loads while I was in the States. You never mentioned you’d fallen out with Beth. What on earth happened?’
