Life's Dream and Other Poems - Felicia C. Severini

    About The Author

Felicia Carmela Michelina Binaco Severini was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, on September 23, 1927. Her family and friends called her Philly.

She was the last of seven children born to Italian immigrants, two years before the Great Depression. Her early life was a time of horse and wagons, Prohibition, speakeasies, real-life Mafia bosses, bootleggers, sweat shops, Catholic rituals, and endless large family gatherings.

Felicia began writing poetry somewhat late in life, drawing on her early childhood experiences in her small hometown. Poems like Freddy’s Lost, Black and White, Right Around the Corner, and Old Fashioned artfully paint pictures of bygone times in rural America. Poems like Reunion and True Friend are funny, wry, witty and timeless. Her most personal poem, Life’s Dream recounts her earliest memories through the tough times into WWII, and after into a time of hope and new beginnings.

I hope you enjoy reading these poems as much as my mom enjoyed writing them.

    Sincerely,

    Linda Camille Severini

    Life’s Dream

Was I dreaming? Or did I do it all?

Living on the river’s bank . . . And being so very small

Voices calling, Hello, aren’t you that little girl?

Well, people didn’t mean to be unkind

But always there to remind me of the hurt and pain

Pop and I would go down to the river’s edge

And paddle our boat under Cooper’s bridge

We would fish all day as I recall

Pop would tell me about the things he did when he was small

    The fiery red
