"WHEN WE FAIL, GOD IS STILL NEAR offers reassurance and encouragement for the Bible-believing Christian going through a difficult time. . .The writing is clear but poetically vivid, with rhythmic forcefulness that, in places, positively begs to be read aloud."~IndieReader

    Chapter 1

When did life get so tough?

Life is rigid. You can start off on a smooth, clean path with a clear vision of your future, then find yourself stepping on a mountain of loose rocks, the pressures of life weighing heavily on your back, your mind foggy from exhaustion, your vision lost.

How did you reach the place where your resilience for life was at a record low? What was it that made your dream appear unattainable?

Those days when you’ve quieted your heart long enough to think, you remember your childhood and how eager you were to grow up.

You remember the big dreams you had for yourself. You knew exactly who you wanted to be when you grew up, and the only obstacle in your way was your age.

You craved the freedom of adulthood.

Most likely you enjoyed your childhood, but like most children, you never appreciated its limitations.

One problem you had to deal with daily was the dreaded bedtime. Bedtime was a reminder of your youth, the authority your parents had over you, your lack of freedom.

You often wondered who prescribed such a ridiculous rule. You wished you knew so you could give them a piece of your mind.

Nevertheless, when you heard the dreaded phrase, It’s time for bed, you frowned, debated why you should stay up a little longer, and maybe even indulged yourself in a brief tantrum on the living room floor, to no avail.

As you walked to your bedroom, defeated, you thought, I’m not sleepy . . . why do they get to stay up late? The answer was already at the forefront of your mind. It’s because they’re adults.

You smudged the tears on your face hard with the back of your small hands. You decided that you hated being a kid, and adults always had more fun.

You laid on your bed, pulled the sheet over your head to keep out the darkness and you thought what every child has thought: I can’t wait to grow up.

Children see the beauty of adulthood, but they don’t see the struggle that can control adults like puppets on a string throughout their lives.

You believed being an adult would be a breeze, full of fun and freedom; a sequence of games and fun activities to fulfill, much to your delight.

But then you grew up, left home, and settled in on your own. You quickly figured out that freedom failed to be as light and manageable as you pictured it would be.

You felt less motivated because your passion for life was decreasing. We can all benefit from staying motivated; it is a skill to have.

The one who can keep themselves motivated will always be ahead in life.

The go-getters, we call them. They always see the light in the darkness. They find a reason to fight, to have hope, to always manage to keep themselves focused on their goals and their dreams.

Worrying is not in their toolkit for success. When worry tries to influence their decisions, it cannot
