Thomas, the boy detective - the stolen bone - Alexander R. T. Chai
Prologue
It was a dark night and no one was making a sound, but wait:
- What were those two men lurking in the shadows?
The two men crept up to a glass case and smashed it with a single brick. One man grabbed what was inside and dashed out of the museum, leaving only the sound of the alarm behind them.
Meanwhile, a boy named Thomas was in his bed reading a book about dinosaurs: Cool! Look at all these pictures of dinosaurs and it’s my favorite, the pterodactyl! There’s even a legend about them! It says people believe that, once during a magic show, something went wrong and a boy used dinosaur DNA from a bone to turn his dog into a live T-Rex! Awesome!
––––––––
prologeThomas closed the book and went to bed. Soon, he started dreaming... In his dream, there was a huge Dinosaur roaming the streets and knocking down skyscrapers as if they were toys. The dinosaur was picking people up and gobbling them down. Thomas tripped and looked up and saw the dinosaur’s razor sharp teeth gleaming in front of him,
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!
As the dinosaur scooped him up and dumped into the huge mouth, Thomas screamed. He jumped up and looked around: realizing he was drenched in sweat and was in his pajamas on his bed.
It was 1 o’clock in the morning, Thomas didn’t feel like going to sleep; he was afraid that he might have the same nightmare, so he walked downstairs and flipped on the TV.
chap 01 (2)This is Breakfast Television News; there has been a robbery at the city museum, the night guard reports...
the TV news reporter said.
He suddenly felt wide awake: A robbery? Wow! Another mystery I can solve!
Chapter 1: The Hair
Thomas didn’t waste a second to watch some cartoons and, as soon as finishing his breakfast, he turned off the TV and sped out the door. He grabbed his bike from the garage and pedaled all the way to the city museum.
Once he arrived, he noticed police tape all around the massive building and a policeman talking to the museum night security guard. Thomas knew that there might be some clues in the talk, so he decided to eavesdrop from their conversation.
This is what he heard: ... So I was walking around the museum and suddenly I heard a creak right behind me! I turn around and see a tissue, when I smell it, I’m out cold!
Thomas gasped, Chloroform! These robbers are dangerous!
he thought. It sounds an interesting clue, and he decided to go in and take a look.
Hello, Mr. Policeman! How do you do? I heard that something was stolen; can you bring me up to speed?
Thomas asked.
The policeman first hesitated to talk to the small boy and thought that he was a trouble-maker, but after studied his face, the policeman knew him at once, are you Thomas? The boy who helped the police to find the bomber of the lava tubes in Hawaii? You even helped the police to find the lost Racer? Wow, it’s a pleasure to meet you!
The policeman continued: Okay so, the museum had been robbed and the robbers took a dinosaur bone and somehow it had Dinosaur DNA on it; it’s one of the museum’s most precious artifacts! The robbers are really smart, they drugged the night guard with chloroform and even hacked the security systems, which caused the backup systems to close for upgrading and well, there is no trace of the robbers anywhere.
Can I look at the scene of crime?
Thomas asked.
Sure!
The policeman guided him to the empty glass case. Thomas took out his magnifying glass and tried to look for clues. He saw one wall of the case neatly trimmed off, and knew that the robbers used a kind of laser to cut through the materiel. Other than that, there was nothing else to see.
Thomas looked one time, on each side of the case, the top and the bottom. He also looked for fingerprints, but there weren’t any. He
