About this ebook

Project Sol-Nites is a futuristic book taking place in the year 2178. The world has been devastated by World War III in 2086 and within 5 years billions of lives are lost. The United States now known as New World Central in order to prevent any future wars has isolated itself from the rest of the world creating massive walls at the borders. Within these walls New World Central has created massive domes encasing major cities where peaceful lives and technology flourish. The advanced technology ensures safety and long lives because of this many people from around the world risk everything to enter the walls of New World Central. Unbeknownst to many of these outsiders New World Central has several ways to prevent this including an implant called a Data Link which is used by New World Central to ensure only citizens walk within the walls. This implant besides being used as a citizen tracker takes the place of many of the technology used today such as a cell phones, televisions, and computers. Rarely outsiders do get through the walls and into domes this causes an elite soldier force called S.O.R.T. to be deployed to ensure their capture.

Our protagonist, Altas Morros, is a member of this elite team who are being injected with nanites to increase their connections with the Data Link. The injections are suppose to help process the vast information being brought in by the uplink but Altas senses something is wrong, besides this Altas does not feel the same way towards the outsiders as the rest of the citizens do. As Altas' story unfolds many twists and turns will keep you entertained and wanting more. Who caused World War III? Are the outsiders as dangerous as New World Central wants their citizens to believe? Are there other forces at work controlling New World Central? Can one man change the world?

    CHAPTER 1...............Head Held High

For all intents and purposes this is where it all begins, not because what follows is the most important or interesting part but because this is where I can begin. I have no prior knowledge of what is to come, I, like most, am curious to what the world brings. What is the value of life? What is the purpose of existence? Who decides what is wrong or right? Think of me as a child describing the following from my point of view. Of course I will stay neutral but as many know, that is at times impossible. If by any chance I interrupt the following with my thoughts please disregard them, if it is so wished.

A filthy frail man desperate to escape runs down a crowded street. Afraid to mistakenly touch the strange man, all the citizens have parted the way for him. Gasps and screams of terror follow his trail but behind these emerge two well-trained athletic men in well-known uniforms armed and prepared to stop him at all cost.

The man in front is important, he also seems to be in charge; he reaches up and presses his fingertip behind his left ear where a small square silver implant sits. The implant glows red as it seems to scan his fingerprint.

Data uplink to S.O.R.T Central Unit two dash four, this is High Sergeant Altas Morros with partner Menses Hone we are in pursuit of the Outsider, following dome uplink map.

The outsider out of breath knows he can not run forever especially against the two men behind him. Looking up at the sky he can see the sun shining through the curved plastic roof. The small eyes on the beams encasing the city seem to be pointed only at him. There is nowhere he could go outside without being seen.

The outsider, seemingly with no other option, runs into an alley way of the tall gleaming buildings surrounding him. Finding an open back door to a building he runs in. Seeing this, Sergeant Altas Morros signals his fair-haired partner to stay outside and secure the perimeter who responds by tapping his long sharp nose twice to signal understanding.

Altas enters the empty building into a dark small office area, he sees several desks and rooms with potential hiding spots. The darkness encases every corner, carefully he quietly steps forward calculating his every step. He reaches to the back of his left ear again, applying his fingertip.

Data uplink lookup Hone, connect. Within Altas’ eyes a screen with all recorded names of everyone he knows appears, searching automatically for Hone’s and connecting once found. In the right hand corner of his right eye a small screen appears with Hone’s face. Hone use the heat sensor update, find the outsider from the exterior of the building and prepare the Wall Disintegration Mine just in case. Keep this link open.

From within his head Altas hears Hone’s rough voice Yes sir. Data uplink Heat Sensors on. Sir, I see him he’s hiding in a closet several feet from you. I’m sending you his position. Data uplink send visual.

In front of Altas’ eyes the small screen changes to a transparent visual of everything Hone can see.

Altas presses the implant behind his ear, Data uplink expand screen to fifty percent and first person view. The screen within his eyes instantly expands to cover half of his right eye and circles around to his own point of view. He quickly scans the area finding the outsider’s heat signature, Hone, I’m going in to apprehend. Apply the WDM while I corner him.

Yes sir, is your weapon fully charged?

Altas raises his two foot weapon looking underneath it’s barrel. A bright green bar reading eighty percent can be seen.

It’s at eighty. I don’t think I’ll need to waste any of it though, this should be quick.

Altas slowly takes several steps toward the closet raising his weapon. In a powerful demanding voice Altas yells, Get out with your hands up! Not seeing any movement through the heat sensors Altas continues, I don’t want to shoot you but the solar power of this gun can pierce right through this door, go right through your body, at the same time cauterizing your wound keeping you alive while you endure the pain of a hole in your chest.

After a couple of seconds of silence finally the door begins to open and a pair of thin shaking hands slowly pokes out. Attached to these frail arms is a thin man with ripped clothes and a hairy face that has seen enough pain for several lifetimes. The man’s brown eyes are filled with sorrow, even they look worn out. His skin severely sunburned possibly from the long travel to the dome.

Please I’m sorry I...I...I’m just trying to get to the other side of the… of the dome. I’m not trying to hurt anyone… anyone at all but they keep running from me and yelling. begged the weak scratchy voice.

Altas sighs feeling sorry for the man and knowing he poses no danger to anyone, lowers his weapon. It’s because you don’t have a Data Link implant, pointing to the implant behind his left ear. See? They’re pretty easy to spot, makes it known pretty quick you’re an outsider. What’s your name?

Taram Deice. In my home they don’t have those things. Is that so you can tell whose a citizen? says Taram as he breathes a sigh of relief.

It’s a bit more complex than that Taram. Altas kneels down to get to eye level of the sitting, still shaking man and pulls out a small needle half the size of his finger. You see this? It’s a syringe, in it is a tracking device we’re going to inject you with it, take you in, and then they’ll escort you to the edge of the Dome. There, another division will take you back to the wall that divides our countries, alright?

The relief once in Taram’s voice immediately changes to horror, No! Please no. In all the years since the war nothing has changed. There’s no food, there no law, people get attacked and killed everyday for the little food they have. My family was killed a couple of days ago... I lost everything I had to take the chance. Look at me! I’ve lost so much weight, I’m dirty, my hair use to be as short as yours, now look at it. I just want to head to the farms. Taram’s wide eyes begin to water.

Altas feeling guilty looks down replying I know, I’m sorry but it’s the way things are, if there was anything I cou…

Just then the wall to the left disintegrates to a pile of dust and a six foot hole shines light into the dark room. Taram jumps at the sight of a brawny man’s silhouette and can almost see the anger on the man’s long face.

I hate that thing! First it tells me ‘Error’ because I forgot to specify the size of the hole then when I finally figure out how to input an eight foot circumference hole the damn thing tells me ‘Error’ again! The manual is three hundred pages long so I had to upload it using the Data Uplink took me two full minutes to get through that thing. I should have just used a regular outward mine but that was deemed too dangerous. Finally Hone stops talking and looks at Altas kneeling down next to Taram. What’s going on? It’s still not sedated and the uplink shows it doesn’t have a tracking device in it.

Altas gets up HE doesn’t need to be sedated and I was just going to track him. When we get back to Central, how about you actually take the trainings assigned to you, you know the ones that actually tell you how to use the WDM so this delay won’t happen again. As Altas turns to Taram he quickly turns back to Hone staring into his angry eyes which are still fixated on Taram And one more thing, you don’t ever question your sergeant, got it!

Yes sir! I apologize it’s just you know what those outsider things have done to this world. I get furious every time I see one of those things. Hone responded without thinking, now slightly worried of what may be his sergeant’s response.

But Taram is the one who quickly jumps in I haven’t done anything to you or this world! My family never did anything! The people in my country haven’t done anything!

Surprised by the outburst Hone takes a step back about to raise his weapon.

You can not keep blaming everyone outside this country for things a few did almost a hundred years ago! yelled Taram slowly acquiring courage while rising up.

Enough! replied Altas standing between the two. Taram I’m going to inject you with the tracking device, hold out your arm. Don’t worry you won’t feel a thing.

Altas uses the syringe to inject a microscopic tracking device in Taram’s forearm.

Hone, handcuff Taram, take the alleyways back to the truck and treat him like the human being. I’ll meet you both at the truck.

As Altas walks out of the building through the hole a well dressed small blonde haired man runs towards him in a panic, Hey! Hey what did you guys do to my wall! I have to open in one hour I can’t have a gaping cavity in my wall!

Altas turns around looking down into the man’s blue eyes I apologize sir, an outsider entered your building and we had to use a specialized mine to corner him.

Oh I apologize I didn’t know. You can call me Mr.Kafe I own this building, please forgive me for my outburst. If you were after one of those things you can do whatever is necessary for their capture. You did catch it right? nervously asked Mr.Kafe.

"Yes, we caught him, you are now safe from that terrible horrible danger you faced from that weak starving man." Sarcastically replied Altas tired of the ignorance.

Thank you very much. Do you have one of those hologram walls I can put up till Central gets here to fix my wall? asked Mr.Kafe not realizing the sarcasm in Altas comment.

Altas pulls out a tiny rectangular box out of a small pocket from his vest Here, press the button on top to scan the hole then scan an adjacent wall roughly the same size. Once it’s done scanning you’ll hear a beep, place the projector at the bottom of the hole and it’ll project a hologram filling the hole. After about five minutes, maybe less, it’ll harden and become permanent. It won’t be as hard as a regular wall but it’ll hold up until Central sends someone to replace it with a real wall. One more thing... Altas takes a step forward to establish his dominance Keep all your doors locked or next time we’ll tear the whole building down and there is no projector for that. Altas hands over the projector and walks away.

Yes sir, sorry sir, thank you for the temporary wall sir. Quickly responds Mr.Kafe afraid of what the powerful Altas may do next time.

Altas shuts down his weapon enjoying the quiet in his head for the first time in awhile but suddenly Hone’s voice breaks through the silence Sir, get here quickly the outsider tried to escape!

Altas quickly turns his weapon back on and with lightning speed runs to the S.O.R.T truck. As Altas approaches the oval hovering truck he sees Taram lying on the floor motionless with Hone standing over his body his blonde hair swaying in the wind as he looks down.

Hone what the hell happened here!

Hone surprised at how quickly Altas arrived barely has anytime to say anything before Altas gets closer and sees the hole through the center of Taram’s forehead. It becomes clear Taram is dead, Altas straightens his posture and tightens his strong jaw, Officer Menses Hone, explain your actions.

Hone also straightens his posture and shoulders his weapon "Sir, I threw him in the back and when I entered the front compartment to send the truck to your position; I realized you were driving previously. I can’t override you out of the truck so I decided to wait for you. As I came around I also decided to open the door for the outsider so he can get some fresh air since you told me
