About this ebook

This is the first book in the Spiritual Revolution series. The Bible's predictions of the future have come true. There is a world government as well as a One World Church. All people are required to have a mark on their right hand. Without the mark, people can't participate in any area of society. Things have moved beyond simply marking people. The world government now implants people. This enables them to electronically view and hear what an implanted person sees as well as hears. It is a way to keep track of people's behavior. There is a supreme evil behind all the actions of the world government as well as the One World Church. Most people don't realize or understand what is happening. It is up to the few remaining Christians to make people aware of this and provide a way to battle it. They discover how to get rid of their mark and join the fight against evil dominating the world.

    CHAPTER 1

    THE REMARKING

The street lights above a sidewalk provide dull illumination down an alley. It is the backs of buildings with cardboard boxes piled next to them. This leaves limited space. There are also huge metal containers next to the boxes. They are all overflowing with trash. A rat moves to the middle of the alley. Its shadow moves with it. The creature tries to avoid stepping in puddles left by a recent cold rain. The rodent stands up on its back legs. The rat’s head bobs up and down as it sniffs. There is a wave of terror in the air. It hears the sound of fast-approaching footsteps. They are moving down an adjoining alley splashing through the puddles. The sound of the footsteps gets louder as they get closer. A meal of rancid spaghetti awaits the rodent in a nearby box. It quickly runs back toward the garbage. The terror filling the air is too much for the rat.

A young man in his late twenties is running down the alley. His dark hair is dirty and a jumbled mess. He has on a plain blue T-shirt and worn blue jeans. Tattered tennis shoes cover his feet. The young man stops to catch his breath as beads of sweat slide down his face. He bends over and continues to breathe heavily. It’s cold enough for him to see his breath. Slowly, the young man stands up straight. His eyes open wide as he stares in the direction from where he has just come. The fast-approaching sounds scare him. It’s human footsteps combined with metal legs hitting cement. The young man starts running again looking for a place to hide.

The rat returns for a moment from between boxes. It sees a large person wearing a uniform come running out of the dark and stop under a light. His one eye makes a mechanical sound as it moves. The rodent decides to go back into the darkness of its box. The scent of negative emotions is too much for it. The uniformed man puts his index finger to the side of his ear and presses before speaking.

Base this is tango seven. I’m in pursuit of a mark remover. I’ve got the laquero with me. I’ll be back in touch with you as soon as the mark remover has been apprehended.

Tango seven you have the authorization to apply the proper mark once the fugitive mark remover is apprehended.

    Roger base will do. Out.

The uniformed man looks down at the metal box. The only sounds are of cars on the distant road combined with people talking and walking on nearby a sidewalk.

Can you imagine there was a time before implants when policemen had to actually carry radio equipment? I can’t imagine how difficult that must have been.

The metal box with legs remains still. The man puts up his arm and presses a button located under the skin on his forearm. The metal box with legs plays a voice.

You are right, officer Malini. It is a pleasure to be with you.

Now that’s more like it. I owe Schultz down in programming for that one.

The man looks around the alley. He notices movement on the left side near a pile of cardboard boxes. Officer Malini yells in the direction. His voice is echoing off the sides of the buildings.

I know you’re hiding. It’s best if you come out right now. If you try to run, I’ll release the laquero. I’m sure you don’t want that to happen.

After taking a few more steps, he looks around again. Officer Malini doesn’t notice the rock fly over his head. When it lands behind him, Officer Malini turns around to see the rock rolling down the alley. He hears a pile of boxes in the opposite direction fall. Malini then turns and sees the young man running down the alley away from him. The young man knows the laquero can’t turn quickly. If he makes it to the street he’ll be safe. Officer Malini immediately brings up his forearm and presses a button under the skin. A beam of light comes from his robotic eye and lands on the running young man. He blinks at the laquero. It instantly goes after the young man with amazing speed.

Get him now, officer Malini yells.

The laquero’s metal legs move quickly. The distance between it and the young man shrinks in seconds. A front portion of the laquero opens. A small green ball is shot at the young man’s legs. He almost makes it to the street when the green ball hits him and explodes. A web of synthetic string covers the young man’s legs binding them tightly together. He falls as officer Malini runs up and stands over him. He looks down at the young man trying to crawl away.

You need to quit it. I’m going to have to cuff you if you don’t stop.

The young man ignores Malini and continues to crawl. He’s breathing heavily. Sweat is pouring down his face as he struggles.

    I warned you.

Malini takes a metal device in the shape of a half-circle from his front pocket. He puts it on the young man’s neck. The young man stops moving immediately. He can now only move his head. He’s been immobilized.

With an index finger pressing his ear, Malini begins talking.

Base, I have the mark remover. He’s been immobilized. Could you please switch me over to mark applications, so I can get this done.

Switching right now. This will take a few seconds.

Malini reaches down to the laquero and opens a compartment on its side. He takes out a device that resembles a hammer. He closes the compartment and holds it over the young man’s face. The device is searching for the young man’s identity using facial recognition.

Let’s see now. It says here that your name is Derrick Bonum. You are 28 years old, and it seems you do not appreciate having a mark. Is it true you’ve removed your mark twice already?

    The young man’s face tightens.

Yeah, that’s right. I’ll remove this one as soon as I can.

It also says you’re one of those old religion Christian types. You, people, are always causing problems. Can’t just do what you’re told. Why can’t you guys just go to the One World Church like everybody else? You Christians and Jews are the worst. Why do you people think you’re so special?

My faith is not based on what is said by a world government controlled by some dupe politician speaking lies, propaganda, and nonsense. It’s my belief. No matter how you and your kind have tried to change the Bible, we still have the original copies. Why are you people so afraid of it? Why does our faith scare you?

Officer Malini rolls his eyes and sighs. He reaches down and grabs the synthetic string. With a quick twist, it’s removed and then forms back into a ball. The synthetic ball of string is then placed back inside the laquero.

I’m telling you nice not to remove the mark I’ll be putting on you. It’s a loser mark so you can’t do much. Go around people we have on record as Christians or Jews, and they’ll feel pain. If it were up to me, I’d terminate all of you. Lucky for you the Grand Leader wants to make peace with you Christians and Jews. That good feeling ends the next time you remove your mark. The law still says if you remove it a fourth time, you’re automatically implanted. Why remove your mark? You can’t have a job, buy things at a store or even travel without your mark. You can’t even do anything with a bank or even legally get a place to live without it. Everybody has one. Why is it such a big deal with you people? I don’t know how any of you survive without one.

I don’t want the world government to know my every move. I don’t want them to know what I eat, when I sleep or where I go, or what I do. I want the freedom to live my life without it being on display for some world government bureaucrat who has no respect for anyone’s privacy but their own. I want to practice my faith and be free from the world government’s involvement in it.

Crazy talk like that is a ticket to the Educational Institute. You go there, and you’ll not just be marked, you’ll be implanted. They’ll put those expensive implants in your body. If you try to remove one of them, you’ll die. It’s just that simple. Is that what you want, Derrick Bonum?

Officer Malini looks away and puts his index finger to his ear again.

Yeah, got everything set up. Had to put on the cuff but it’s okay. Start the information transfer.

Malini is holding the hammer device as it lights up. In a few minutes, the light goes out. He holds up Derrick’s right hand and examines it. Derrick grumbles and moves his head back and forth as the wide part of the hammer device is put closer to his hand. A spot scarred from previously removing marks given to him by the world government.

You remove another one of these, and you’re not going to have any flesh left on your right hand.

After looking all over Derrick’s right hand, officer Malini chooses a spot. He then puts the device on Bonum’s hand. The hammer device lights up and glows. It burns Derrick’s skin. People walking on the street don’t look down the alley. They seem determined to ignore what is taking place. Everyone looks away and keeps walking. Their fear is evident. The smell of burnt flesh is strong. After a few minutes, the device is removed. Officer Malini puts the hammer device back into the laquero. There is a series of bars and letters now burned into Derrick’s right hand. Malini’s index finger is again pressed to his ear.

Mark applications, it has been successfully applied. I have given the warning as is required by law. Yes, there has been no other criminal activity detected. I will remove the cuff when the healing is complete. Tell Joni I said hello. Out

Officer Malini presses a button on the metal device around Derrick’s neck. It spreads open and is carefully removed. The young man’s body begins to shake. This goes on for approximately a minute as the muscles and nerves in his body begin to work again. When it stops, Derrick struggles to stand. The intense pain he feels in his hand is slowly going away. The mark on his hand has a little light. It is now transmitting information about him to the world government. Derrick looks up at Officer Malini and takes a deep breath.

Do you know our Bible told us about these times in the world? It has been written about for thousands of years. If our holy book knows about this, you should agree, it probably knows the truth about many other things.

Officer Malini chuckles. He holds up his arm and presses a button. He then presses his index finger again to his ear.

I would love to stay and chat Bonum, but crazy people like you keep me busy all day every day. I got another mark remover not far from here. I need to take care of it as soon as possible. You stay out of trouble and leave that mark on your hand.

The laquero turns at the same time as Officer Malini. They both begin moving quickly down the street.

Derrick yells in Malini’s direction, Why did you let them implant you? You’re no longer a free human being. You’re nothing more than a robot with human flesh. You’re just a puppet for the world government. They run you like a machine. Don’t you understand what you’ve done to yourself?

Officer Malini stops, turns back toward Derrick, and yells, I’d rather be a puppet for the world government than a crazy loser who lives in a delusional religious world. Now get out of here and go on your way. Don’t make me call the serious police.

Derrick watches Malini turn and run down another alley. He sees him again put his index finger to his ear and talk.

It’s never easy to have your mark reapplied. Derrick believes in the mission he’s been given from the colony. Experiencing a little discomfort, pain, and humiliation is something he knew would happen. He must now continue his focus and do what needs to be done.

    CHAPTER 2

    COURAGE THROUGH FAITH

Derrick walks down a crowded city street. It’s dark and a bit cold. People pass him and do not make eye contact. His right hand hurts from where the mark was reapplied. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a small synthetic bag. After removing the contents, he gives them a quick shake. Derrick now has a jacket to wear. He puts it on and instantly feels the warmth. There are gloves in the pockets. He puts them on as well. Now, he feels a little better.

With a mark, people can access anything society offers except what is designated only for people who are implanted. A marked person can shop at any store except ones designated for only those who are implanted. They can legally get work or even rent an apartment. Derrick now has what’s known as a loser mark. If he comes into contact with a marked person the world government thinks is a Christian or Jew, they’ll feel pain. Once this happens, the world government will come wanting to know what happened. With the type of mark Derrick has, he’ll only be able to have access to the worst jobs, the worst places to live, and be ignored by most people who become aware of the type of mark he has on his right hand. Thinking about it makes Derrick feel imprisoned. The world government is now going to be with him constantly recording everything he does. He keeps telling himself this is all part of the mission. Derrick must get his next set of instructions from the colony.

A scream of pain is heard from someone across the street. Derrick looks to see a woman grab her head and fall onto the sidewalk. She has tears streaming down her face. People continue walking past her. They’ve been conditioned to ignore incidents like what is happening across the street. They step around her as if she’s just an inanimate object blocking their path. Screams of pain like this are all too common. It means an implanted person has behaved in a way the world government had determined is unacceptable. They may have broken one of the many world government laws for implanted people. The first time it happens, implanted people get just a short burst of pain. When they try a second time, the pain is intense and lasts a long time. The third time it happens, an implanted person may need medical help. If someone tries to get food that is not permitted, buy more clothes or even go to a restaurant more often than the world government permits, the connection to the pain sensors in the brain of an implanted person can be activated remotely. Saying anything negative about the world government is also unacceptable. The pain given to anyone who does such a thing is always unbearable. The system controlling implanted people is part of an immense world governmental bureaucracy. Another shriek is heard behind Derrick. He doesn’t even turn to look. Cries of pain are now what people expect to hear when walking down any street.

Getting a mark is mandatory, but implants are supposed to be voluntary. The world government tries to make people believe that being implanted is an honor for all who are chosen for it. Being implanted is an expensive procedure and takes a few days. Once a person is implanted, they have free telephone communication by just pressing an implant below their ear. The implants constantly monitor the various functions of a person’s body. Many implanted people get medical care even before they realize they have any health issues. Should an implanted person experience a medical emergency, they only needs to wait for an ambulance. People from the world government can also use the electrical eye implants to see what the implanted person sees. They can hear what the implanted person hears and know what they’re saying. If the world government feels threatened by an implanted person, they can also remotely cause their death.

Most people are given their mark when they are born. Without it, they can’t go to any type of school, eat a school lunch or even gain access to a virtual or physical classroom. When a person becomes a legal adult, they can volunteer to be on the implant list. Once someone is implanted, they no longer have to pay taxes. People who are implanted pay less than half for their food or any consumer goods. People who only have marks must always pay full price for everything. There are enough people with just marks to keep society functioning. The world government tells everyone how there is always a long list of people waiting to be implanted. People are told all world government officials, high-ranking members of the military, and members of the police force are required to be implanted before working in their professions. Those who only have a mark are often considered the most common members of society. Anyone who is not implanted, or does not have a mark, is considered a criminal.

A subject the world government doesn’t want people to discuss is the colony. Implanted people have been hospitalized by the system for asking too many questions about it. The world government has refused to acknowledge its existence. People still hear the rumors about how the colony is the last place on earth where Christians and Jews can practice their religion freely. People at the colony live without the world government controlling them. The world government has tried to destroy the colony on several occasions using various methods. The world government invests large amounts of resources each year toward eliminating the colony, and it never succeeds.

There are always rumors about the colony. Some say it is a place where only Christians and Jews live because the world government has wiped out all other religions. Many say it is the only thing the world government fears.

    i

Derrick comes to a street corner. He stops and looks around for his instructions. A small cross has been etched on a street sign. This is a sign that someone from the colony has been here. There is a circle with a D in it to the left of the cross, it is Derrick’s symbol. It means he must keep walking down the street. He’ll soon get the next set of instructions.

He sees a disheveled man who is not looking at him but says, Charlie’s horse rode in stationary time.

Derrick looks at the bearded old man rummaging through a garbage can. The man has long, scraggly gray hair. He is wearing a worn coat and an old leather hat. That is the signal. The first letter from each of the words spoken spells Christ. The old man stands up and turns around. He makes pointless gestures and buttons his coat. The man continues acting like he’s a little crazy. He takes off his worn hat and pushes it toward Derrick.

All I’m asking for is a few markers to help me get by until tomorrow. I’ve been refused to be implanted. My mark is so worn, I can’t get food. Just a few markers is all I’m asking.

Derrick reaches into his pocket and puts a few plastic stick markers that are used for currency in the man’s hat. There is a rolled-up ball of paper at the
