Chapter 1 - The Spirit in Man Yearns to Worship

I am pleased to be your tour guide as we embark into one of the most important journeys that every soul can and must make in order to unravel the truth, which is hidden inside of a myriad of religions, faiths, cults and belief systems that have infiltrated the mind and soul of humanity since the very dawn of this age. Once these truths are brought to light, you will no longer have to wonder; as it will become very clear to those who truly want to know the truth.

Those who desire to know the truth will, and those who don't - can't and won't.  It is that simple. So keep an open mind, and let's begin.

The word religion is also referred to as a faith or belief system.  Religion is an organized set of moral and ethical beliefs and laws, established by an institution. Religious organizations attempt to explain the origin and the meaning of life; and the behavior, character and values that one must develop to achieve spiritual blessings and rewards in this life and the afterlife. Most religious organizations hold weekly gatherings and services for prayer, worship, enlightenment and fellowship.

The practices of religions and related organizations may include art, community activities, charitable events, concerts, feast days, dances, festivals, funerals, initiations, marriages, meditation, membership activities and parties, music, sacrifices, studies, dances, among other activities. Some religious organizations appear more like a social club than a faith. 

Religious beliefs have also been used to explain para psychological phenomena such as out-of-body experiences, near-death experiences and reincarnation, along with many other paranormal experiences.

Some organizations refer to themselves as a religion to conceal a more sinister agenda, such as participating in the occult, divination, witchcraft, conjuring up spirits and related practices.  I will cover some of these cults as well as major religions and faiths in this book, but bear in mind that there are many religions out there.

Why so many Religious Organizations?

It is estimated that there are over 4,000 religions in the world.  Why so many?

Man has always yearned to worship someone or something. It is impossible for the spirit in man to persist in a vacuum.  Absent of a relationship with God, the emptiness will immediately be filled with another spirit, or other worldly things such as entertainment, hobbies, work, drugs, games, and yes - a host of many other religions, idols, and gods that can feed mans spirit and or ego.

The soul of man is a supernatural force.  God reveals that he has set eternity in our soul (Ecc. 3:11).  As a result, there is a vacuum within our soul that only God can fully satisfy. Notwithstanding, when a spiritual vacuum exists, that person fills it by worshiping something else.  This is why mankind has fabricated an untold number of religions, idols, and gods to fill the void with.  When people reject the true God, they begin to worship other objects.

I hope that upon reading this book you can appreciate how there is so much  deception out there in the spiritual and physical realm that will confuse the heck out of anybody that is seeking answers outside of the true word.  There is an overwhelming abundance of religious and spiritual belief systems out there pointing all over the place, so as to confuse even God’s elect who choose to explore outside of the word, or those unfamiliar with the spiritual guidance offered by the sovereign God of the holy scriptures.

Secular Humanism

Secular humanism turned to man himself as the sole source, and rejects all religious dogma.  The New Age Movement is a reaction to this atheistic view, but it is no closer to the truth than secular humanism is. The New Age Movement puts emphasis on our mind as the solution to all of our woes.  So they reason that there is no need to worship a sovereign God, since we are all god.  It is not just the New Agers who embrace this philosophy, but as you will read in subsequent chapters many other religions and cults follow the same philosophy.

In this book we will explore many religions, beliefs and cults in a journey to help unlock truths that will assist in explaining the key differences between these faiths and belief systems. 

The Forces of Darkness and its influence on religion

As the age of man grinds to a close, the forces of darkness have already succeeded in influencing and possessing a large number of mankind and the institutions which do not believe in the word, or in the sovereign God.  Since iniquity is so pervasive and all around us, even those who are believers in the sovereign God are also vulnerable to the clutches of the dark forces that abound. 

Satan has done a masterful job in deceiving many into thinking that to be a saved Christian is to be shunned, avoided and or a sign of weakness. Today, many peoples, nations and tongues shun and or censure the name of Jesus.  They do not understand that agape love is true power; and that the opposite of love is fear.  In this book you will learn how the things that society rejects today is the only supernatural weapon mankind has to combat the forces of darkness that pollute the world. 

The prince of darkness (Satan) has truly done a masterful job in perverting just about everything that God originally made for the good of mankind. He is the master of confusion, deception and lies.  His spirit of evil and hate has infiltrated governments, nations, the media, churches, and the human soul.  The adversary does not take light his quest to influence the eternal destiny of every living soul; yet most of humanity doubts that the devil even exists. 

Satan (the Devil) has many names and with the assistance of his myriad of demons, fallen angels, minions and his supernatural power to deceive the masses with half truths, has succeeded in deluding many into thinking that he and his cohorts are just a mythical character that imposes no risk to the spiritual integrity of mankind.  He has influenced mankind to create many false gods, idols, religions and doctrines, all designed to confuse the masses.

Unless equipped with the word and the Holy Spirit of God, the man of perdition can sift peoples and nations like wheat.

My purpose is not to criticize doctrines that don't line up with the Christian dogma, but to identify the source of conspiracies, deception, lies and darkness that are taking over the world today, and how to identify and overcome their influence and bondage upon our lives.

Indeed, mankind has a multitude of religious choices and alternative unconventional philosophies, and as a result we are left with a hodge podge of belief systems.  As we will, see many of these belief systems are diametrically opposed to or are derivatives of the ancient scriptures - the Torah and the Old and New Testament Bible.

Now let's review some of the most popular myths, cults, false gods and religions that are still influential in today's modern times; either in their original form or concealed via a new label, name or  derivative thereof. In many cases I will compare these ancient religions or myths with Christianity as the control.  This is because many religions and myths seem to contain scriptural roots and or similarities to the fundamental principles contained in the Bible; and also because Christianity remains the world's dominant religion with 2.1 to 2.4 billion adherents.

We will begin with the gods and idols associated with Egyptian, Greek and Roman worship.

Chapter 2 - Ancient Mythology vs. Modern Theology

The writings of the Old Testament (bible) predate Greek and Roman mythology.  From the book of Exodus we learn that the Hebrews were slaves in Egypt way before that Greeks came to power.  Many years after the Exodus, the Greeks would invade Egypt and adopt many of their customs and gods, including the Egyptian demigod Hercules. 

The similarities between Greek Mythology and the teachings of the bible are minimal although there are some striking similarities with a few foundational teachings:

- In both the Christian and Greek creation accounts, at the beginning the earth full of darkness and was void (Genesis 1:2; Tripp 159).

In the Greek version, this state of Chaos that the world was in, was actually a god.  Chaos became the bearer which gave birth to of the earth, the underworld, love, sex, the night, and beyond (Tripp 159). So for comparison purposes, God is the parallel to the Greek god Chaos in that he also created everything.

- In the biblical account the creation of Adam and Eve (Genesis 1:1-18) and their offspring is comparable to the Greek account of Eros whom Chaos bore.

- Unlike Chaos, God is not a void or nothingness, but the beginning and end of all things.

- The God of the bible is also sovereign and lives forever and ever, whereas the Greek Chaos is eventually permanently replaced by Zeus (Tripp 606; Hesiod 2-3).

- In both the biblical and Greek accounts, there was also a falling from grace between man and their respective God.  In both cases the fall was a result of deceit, and disobedience for the sake of some mystical power through food.  In the Christian case the food here is actually symbolic with completing a covenant with death for swallowing the food - the lie of the devil (Genesis 3:1-6)

- In both accounts, the woman leads man to sin and to fall from grace; and both are expelled from the Garden of Eden.  The Greeks are a bit more harsh on women citing that women became Zeus method to punish man (Genesis 3:6-24, Hesiod 4); and to make man miserable, and as a result to bear the blame for all human suffering! Hey you guys and gals - I am just the messenger here!

- Both the Christian and Greek mythology provides an account of a great flood (Genesis 7; Tripp 608).

Most of us know the account of Noah's Ark and the destruction of the world by flood water Genesis 6:5-7, 9-14). The whole earth would be destroyed save Noah, his family and specimens of every living creature for repopulation purposes (Genesis 6:18-22).

In the Greek flood story, we once again see that Zeus is a less merciful and compassionate god, since when Zeus becomes very angry with man he decides to  spare no one (Tripp 608). However, Prometheus, tells his son, Deucalion, to build an ark to escape the wrath of Zeus. 

- Both also speak of a child that must be sheltered from an angry god (Greek) or king (Bible).

In the Greek version the Greek god cronos attempts to swallow up all of his children at birth upon hearing that one of his children would overthrow him (Tripp, 177). But Rhea (Cronos' wife) successfully manages to shelter their youngest child Zeus from his father Cronos.  Eventually Zeus does manage to dethrone his father Cronos as the "chief of gods".

In the biblical account, King Herod decides to kill every child in Bethlehem after the three wise men tell Herod of the birth of the future Jewish king (Jesus). But an angel of the Lord warned Jesus' parents of this plot and they escape to Egypt (Mathew 2:1-9, 13-16).

Note: Here we have somewhat similar accounts but it is important to notice that in the Greek the god again wants to kill off ALL HIS children, whereas the God of the bible is protecting His only son Jesus from Herod (a symbol of Satan).

The examples that we have covered above are strikingly similar making some wonder where these accounts come from; they had to come from somewhere. They do; they come from the signs in the constellations - the Zodiac signs!  In my book Signs in the Heavens I uncover how the zodiac signs have been adopted by Greek mythology and many other ancient cults and mystery religions, and how many of their stories come from these cosmic signs.  Yet when one understands the scriptures and prophecies it is quite interesting how the zodiac actually tell the biblical account morese than any other mythological story!

Also, note that the writings of the Old Testament (bible) predate Greek and Roman mythology by a few thousand years. 

Adonis 

Adonis is a figure in many of the mystery religions. In the Caananite/Phoenician text Adonis means lord.  He (it) is a Phoenician demi-god symbolic with beauty, lust and youth.  Although many may not associate it, today's worship of beauty and youth is the same spirit of Adonis at play here in the modern age!  The Babylonians referred to Adonis as "Tammuz"

Adonis is a key figure in ancient Greek religion.  He is the god of vegetation similar to Baal whose rain, aided vegetation. He is also the god of "handsome youth".

- That Adonis is the god of fertility

- that he represents the spirit of vegetation
