SPRING! It's the time of year when winter winds slowly die, snowfalls cease, and ice caps melt. Thermal coats are exchanged for jackets and sweaters, and moods turn from somber to joyous as the days become longer and longer and the sun becomes warmer. Those in colder climates no longer have to fear frostbite or slipping and sliding on icy roads. Birds once again can be heard chirping in the morning, and the feeling of Spring is in the air! Who doesn't love Springtime?
The revival of Spring is a crucial time of the year for all Pagan Springtime traditions, which begin at the Vernal Equinox. The Vernal or Spring Equinox occurs annually on March 20 or 21 and triggers the start of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere; this is when the amount of daylight and darkness are nearly equal. During the Spring and the Summer, the sun's rays bring light for longer days, healthy crops, luscious rivers, fertile women, and healthy livestock.
