About this ebook

Start On Your Road Today To Losing Weight, Attaining Better Health and Running Your First Race!

Even a Little Bit Of Running Can Mean A Whole Lot Of Lifestyle Change!

In the United States it is estimated that greater than 60% of the population is overweight. Greater than 30% are considered obese and likely to face grave health issues as a result. Where do you think that the population of avid runners falls in that statistic? Without reading any further, would you guess that runners are in the 30% of the “safe” side of that statistic, or the side more likely to face potentially deadly health issues?

Beginner's Guide to Running!

This book is written for someone who wants to start running to change their life, whether that means to lose weight, relieve stress or gain confidence and maybe run their first 5k. Some of the things that you will learn in this book include:

  • Getting the right pair of shoes
  • Treadmill or Road?
  • Choosing the right running surface
  • Using Proper Running Form
  • Steps to Avoid Injury
  • Preparing for your first race

Written by a Passionate Runner for Passionate Beginners!

I wrote this book because I wanted to share what I love about one of my greatest passions. I want to get people as excited about running as I was when I started and I am today. I hope by reading the book I can encourage you to start something that can be a lifestyle change (and hopefully not make the mistakes I made along the way!). I would like nothing more than to hear back from people that they are now “Hooked”. Let's Get Running!

Beginner's Guide to Running - Paul Rogers

    INTRODUCTION

In the United States it is estimated that greater than 60% of the population is overweight.  Furthermore, greater than 30% are considered obese and likely to face grave health issues as a result.  Where do you think that the population of  avid runners falls in that statistic?  Without reading any further, would you guess that runners are in the 30% of the safe side of that statistic, or the side more likely to face potentially deadly health issues?

It’s hard to imagine there was a time before Twitter and Facebook, a time before there were 300 channels on TV and streaming content on our phones.  Before we had all of this there was arguably little to keep us indoors – most people enjoyed being active, loved being outdoors and fitness was rarely an issue.

Unfortunately, the modern world is conspiring against us to keep us sedentary. Many of us sit in a car or on a bus while we commute to a job where we are sitting in front of a computer all day.  Outside of work we are bombarded by a hoard of stimulating media from our computers and televisions that entice us to not leave the couch.  We are living in an age that wants us to be sedentary, and the fact that any one of us can manage to be anything but unfit is frankly astounding.

The good news is it doesn’t have to be this way!  It is easier than it seems to relearn an activity we loved as children that can make us healthier than we’ve ever been: Running!  Once you’ve embraced the sport of running you’ll see how easy it is to make a lifestyle change.  You don’t have to be fast, run tremendous distances or be a gifted athlete.  And the beautiful thing about running is you will see physical changes in yourself, fairly quickly, that will keep you motivated for more.

I am a prime example of how the modern age threatens our longevity with its creature comforts.  I have always been a physically active person, and played tennis and ran quite a bit as a young man.  Once I got married and started a family, priorities changed and I began a career where I was working full time behind a desk.  Despite remaining active, I still could not avoid becoming overweight.

My change happened eight years ago.  I realized the best way to reclaim my fitness was to return to my roots of running.  I started slowly until I ran my first 5k and was hooked.  Since then I have run 23 marathons and have learned a lot of do’s and don’ts along the way.  Whether or not you ever get passionate enough to run a marathon is up to you – the good news is that running even a modest amount every week will completely transform you (and some doctors would tell you it is healthier than running a marathon!).
