About this ebook

Streets is the third literary collection of poems by Mavis J. Pearl with topics of silly philosophy stemming from a warped mind. The people that we meet are the people that teach us how to be and how not be. The thoughts and opinions of some characters we encounter in our lives are depicted in this set of poems. Deranged is the range as a true reflection of our streets. The philosophical backdrop of this collection engages readers to escape out of the comforts they know. If you let your mind think long enough, it might take you places that question the very present you’re experiencing. Keep an open mind, and judge not lest ye be judged.

    Travis Knuck

The compost piled itself in rage

    The bottom sealed imagined waste

    Stumbling head, transparent cage

    Confusion, terror, shit to taste.

In empty words he spun his fate

    And panicked subtly for days

    Searching madly for the gate

    Sadly giving up his ways.

Explored the woods to find his soul

    Watching leaves in futile tumble

Let time invested be his toll

The woods instead were just a jungle.

    Be Real : Get Real

    Amazing grace in latitude

    Flattering up-scale banner

    Scary lust for attitude

    Demands a soul-skate manor.

    Jealousy not well displayed

    Still hovering over crisis

The fame soon seen yet far delayed

    The thought of it entices.

    Pity laid upon the struggle

    So obvious in others found

    Arrogance and pride to juggle

Where trace of sympathy is bound.

The classmate fails at his arrival

    As tragic competition glows

    Never mate but always rival

    Extends his vanity for shows.

    Progress stagnates, forms destruction

    Criticism highly acclaimed

    Difficult but just obstruction

    Feelings shaken, master tamed.

    Lunacy has blessed confusion

    Sincerity unknown as known

    Slightly challenging delusions

    Opportunities are blown.

    Battle with the human psyche

    Abilities remain ignored

    Defeated once again by Nike

Told not to swing the goddess’ sword.

    Attraction managed, flames prepared

    Nausea travelled through the masses

    Talents hoped for not declared

Time to end the drama classes.

    Decaf

    Far ahead without the aim

A moral zero without the shame

A current movie but no fame

The party over, then you came.

    Sparkling kingdom, its people poor

    Lord Sinclair, no Roger Moore

The city calls, no guiding tour

You’re welcome but you’re never sure.

Your secret life that you don’t know

A missed reunion, still you go

    An audience without the show

    Fluorescent lights without the glow.

    Democracy for the cemetery

    Stable civil rights that vary

    Adventurous, but not quite daring

A diamond ring you choose to marry.

Still torn inside, the skin has healed

A big mistake, the deal is sealed

90 miles, your sign says yield

A hobby farmer sold his field.

    A Moslem governor in Rome

Your hairdresser has lost his comb

Your parents’ basement you call home

    A cappuccino, no white foam.

    Broken Record – Record Broken

Her eyes are closed in scared completion

Then she turns away and says

We don’t see eye to eye on things

But we both can see this mess.

So open them, before you judge me

Don’t declare my love as dead

    Unworthy of your mind’s ignoring

I have offered you my bed.

She planted hands on both her cheeks

The scream of anger left her lungs

    An uninvited perk to faint

    With tears diluted tension hung.

Maybe you stood by me, but I only caught your breath

Maybe you showed interest, but it wasn’t for my best

I don’t understand you, who will promise you no mess?

Metallic drifts of envy fought me

    Venom stained my silhouette

Bearing the pain that moulds my heart

To this day I can’t forget.

Her spitting fire singed my hopes

Sucked all the juices out of me

She swears I’ll never understand her

And threw her hook to therapy.

    Broken silky mood is drifting

Found the place to keep defending

Why her only choice was brutal

Why her love for me was ending.

Maybe you stood by me, but I only caught your breath

Maybe you showed interest, but it wasn’t for my best

I don’t understand you, who will promise you no mess?

I am the failure in this circle

My craft is tearing souls apart

    Never safe enough to wander

Never safe to leave my heart.

My heart was in you and I thought

That I had left it there to stay

It was spat out and left astray:

She sent her love and mine away.

Her bosom laughing in his arms

Her lips confiding in his tongue

Heavy set to rule a new life

Not to un-rule the other one.

Maybe she stood by me, but I only caught her breath

Maybe she showed interest, but it wasn’t for my best

I don’t understand her, who will promise her no mess?

    Desperanto

    You move again – a brand-new house

    And call it
