Your Life Incorporated. How To Incorporate Your Life Into Your Day, And Make Your Dreams Come True. - Bruce Marrow

    1 – You are here

"So on and on you go, the seconds tick the time out

there's so much left to know, and I'm on the road to find out."

    - Cat Stevens

You’re in the mall. A new mall, one you’ve never been to before. It’s fifteen minutes to closing time and you need to get that anniversary-birthday-holiday gift that you put off buying to the last minute. You know where you want to go. You’ve even found the store on the mall directory map. Problem is, you don’t know where you are in relation to the store. You can waste your time wandering frantically among the teenage texting throngs, and hope you stumble across your destination before they pull down the steel grate. Or, you can look closely at the mall directory for

    a tiny little arrow

The one marked, You are here.

Bazinga! No problem. You even notice you can hit Starbucks on the way with time to spare.

    You are here

If you don’t know, it becomes the question: where am I?

It’s the question you need to find the answer for to get anywhere. What is your starting point? Even the most sophisticated GPS navigation system is useless without this crucial piece of information.

So, we are at the beginning.

Dorothy starts down the yellow-brick road, Don Quixote mounts his broken-down steed and begins the quest to find his lady love, Harold and Kumar get the munchies and head for White Castle.Where it all starts.

You need to define your starting point, but it doesn’t have to define you.

So, put aside your ego, past regrets, and self-recriminations. It’s time to take a look in the mirror, and trust me, no matter how much you fear your current reflection, what you lack in natural assets you make up for in potential. And hey, you may be a knock-out with just that one mole to take care of. The point is, hiding from your reflection will not change reality. There, I said it. Reality. Not the virtual, augmented, or TV variety. Really, real, reality.

Sorry, I wanted to be clear on what we are talking about here. The concept has become so clouded by popular culture that it has become easier than ever for us to delude ourselves into actually believing our Facebook profiles don’t contain… creative biographies.

    Better said, lies.

Let’s agree, that here inside the safe confines of these pages, we can be honest with ourselves. The good book says, …and the truth will set you free. Good advice. That’s what we need, to find the truth that sets us free to move our lives to the next level. Remember, every hero’s story starts with what writer’s coin the CALL TO ACTION. And the more humble or challenging the hero’s starting point,

    the GREATER THE JOURNEY.

Hercules had to overcome twelve labors, including killing a giant nine-headed serpent. Nobody is celebrating the name of the hero who conquered the labor of simultaneous channel surfing while taming the Lazy Boy recliner.

So, if you find that you have a long way to go toward your dreams, get excited!

You have a great journey in front of you!

    Great journeys.

That’s what the balance of this book will be about. Building your own great journeys to your dreams.

    Are you ready?

You may not have even realized it, but you already started on this journey by picking up this book. Your call to action has already begun. All you need to do now is keep putting one foot in front of the other and take the next step. The laws of nature tell us that a body in motion tends to stay in motion. So, don’t stop! You have already overcome one of the toughest obstacles – inertia.

You are no longer frozen in fear, or apathy, no longer that deer in the headlights. Make it count! So here goes. I said a few pages back that YOU would be the author of this book, and here is your first chance. This book was designed to be written in.

    BY YOU.

The next three pages contain some questions for you to answer to start your own, private You are here inventory of your life. These questions are designed to help you figure out which aspect of your life you are looking to make an immediate change in. Ten minutes of your time, tops. Running off in five directions at once never achieved anything. So, what you are looking for here is which aspect of your life do you want to work on first?

Why did you pick up this book?

Don’t close the book here to come back later! Remember all of those other books and self-help programs you started that never worked for you? It’s most likely because you stopped right here where personal action was required!

    FIND A PEN OR PENCIL!!!

If you’re in a restaurant, check the cashier. They probably have a bunch of those free bank pens. In your car? Dig into the bottom of the glove box, or down in that crack between the seats. If you carry a purse, I’m willing to bet down in that Bermuda Triangle near your car keys is a pen.

    You get the idea.

Whatever it takes DON’T STOP NOW!

If you are reading the e-book version, follow the link below. Go to the You Are Here (#1) option and a Google Form will open for your responses. It’s free! Once you submit it you will get an email of how you have scored yourself. Again, this is free to e-book readers, and we will NEVER sell your email address or send you spam.

Remember, you are going to define your starting point but your starting point does not have to define you.

On the following three pages there are eight simple circle-the-number self-assessment grids for. Self-growth, Finances, Relationships, Career, and Health.

There are also three completely blank slates for you to fill in areas you want to rate if they don’t fit inside the categories I’ve built. Although you may already have a dream / goal in mind, go ahead and finish the whole thing. It should only take you about ten minutes.

Be honest with yourself when you start circling those numbers, and don’t start beating yourself up if you find some deep areas of improvement. Remember, this is just your current starting point.

So, what did you find out?

Scores from 3.6 to 5 show overall positive progress.

Scores close to 3.5 show neutral or about on track with your goals.

Scores under 3.5 show significant opportunity for growth. This can be for the total score for a category, say Finances, or just one component, Savings.

Whether you have already selected a dream / goal to pursue, this You are here inventory shows you which areas of your life can be focused on to produce the biggest impact on your life as a whole.

Now that you know where you are, don’t stop here.

They say knowledge is power, but that’s only true if you use it to DO SOMETHING.

Section 2 is waiting for you to figure out exactly what that something is.
