The Personal Power Plan, or PPP, is a personal plan because you write it and you record it. It is a power plan because it works with powerful invisible forces. It will produce the future you desire when you follow the plan. The three steps of the plan are as follows: First, determine exactly what you want in your life in every category and down to the smallest detail. Second, write your life script to read the way you want your future to be.

Next, record your script utilizing proven methods, including contemporary advertising principles used by the media. The end result becomes your Personal Power Plan, which is as individual as your fingerprints.

Your Personal Power Plan will guide your actions. It challenges you to make the most important choice of your life. Make the choice that will assure the future of your dreams. You and you alone have the power to do it, The choice is yours; the time is now!

    Introduction

What do you want out of life? What do you want to be when you grow up? What would make you really happy? More money? A better job? Career recognition? A college degree? Feeling self-assured and confident?

Do you want to feel in control of your life? Develop a new relationship? To be a loving wife or husband? Make new friends? Live in the home of your dreams? Drive a Mercedes, Jaguar, or BMW? Wear an elegant wardrobe? Have better health? Have a perfect body? Have kids who behave? Enjoy security in your retirement years? Have serenity and peace of mind? Have a sense of union with a higher power?

We all have desires and aspiraton, but many go unfulfilled because we consider them to be just dreams.

We all have desires and aspirations, but many go unfulfilled. We consider them simply dreams. Many live lives of quiet desperation. Many consider themselves lucky if when they succeed in one area of life, usually career, because that is where most people focus their greatest attention, at the expense of other areas such as health, family, personal relationships, and spiritual commitment.

What if you could have it all? What if you could write your own life script—and live it? What if you could make your dreams and aspirations come true now—or in not too distant future? Would you be interested? Of course you would!

I’ve mentioned a lot of what its. But let me tell you—there are no ifs, ands, or buts about this—you can fulfill all of your dreams right now in this lifetime. It’s all up to you. Yes, it’s all up to you. You are in charge. You have the power to create your life exactly the way you want it or to change it to be the way you want it to be. Right now you can take control and begin to live your personal hopes and dreams. Sound incredible? It is true.

We each have unlimited personal power within ourselves.

Naturally, you’re skeptical, but if you’re curious, you’ll want to know how to accomplish such lofty goals. After all, if it were within everyone’s power, wouldn’t everyone have everything they want and need and—more importantly, wouldn’t everyone be happy? Most people have never honestly asked themselves that all-important question. They didn’t realize it was up for consideration. If they did ask, they may never have sincerely searched for the answer. Or, after asking, they never come to the realization that the means to achieve their dreams lies within themselves. For the most part, we are all too often unaware of our personal power.

In the following pages, you will learn about the unlimited personal power within you, how to tap into it, and how to put your personal power to work for you. You will be given age-old laws and truths, basic rules and instructions that have been part of the philosophies of the world’s great sages and leaders. Best of all, you will learn how to apply these universal truths to your life here and now.

You will learn how to apply these universal truths to your life here and now.

    Mental Chatter

    How To Stop it

The human mind is an amazing computer. Well, if it’s so great, then why is your mind screwing you up? It’s the programming, obviously. Remember the old acronym, GIGO, meaning garbage in—garbage out or garbled in—garbled out? That’s pretty self-explanatory, isn’t it? If you program your computer improperly or with erroneous material—garbage, that’s what you’re going to get out—garbage. Very simply, if your mind has been programmed with garbage or garbled material, you cannot expect to retrieve anything from it but garbage or garbled material.

If your mind has been programmed with garbage or garbled material, you cannot expect to retrieve anything from it but garbage or garbled material.

So simple, in fact, that it is profound. Most profound truths are simple, which confuses people. We expect profound to mean difficult, mysterious, or hard-to-understand. The GIGO concept is simplicity itself; basic, down-to-earth, factual and, when understood, easy to implement. Basic truth: our minds are programmed and that is why we think, act, and feel the way we do, We program ourselves—self-program—daily, every day, during all of our waking moments, as well as when sleeping since our minds are active in dreaming.

    We Are Programmed

If we are all programmable, why don’t we just program ourselves the way we want to be, the way we dream of being? Why do we simply accept ourselves the way we are? Most of us have not given this much thought, even though we’re thinking all the time. If you don’t believe it, just try not thinking for a minute. Go ahead: STOP THINKING NOW! Do not think about anything for just one minute.

What happened? You couldn’t stop your thoughts, right? We couldn’t turn off your mind, with the constant thoughts, the inner dialogue—the incessant chatter that psychologists call self-talk. We are all the same in this regard. Our minds are filled with endless, largely uncontrolled thoughts. Is this self-talk productive? How do you like what you’re saying to yourself? Does your self-talk make you happy?

Are your thoughts getting you where you want to go? If you’re like most people, the thoughts seem to be just there. Similar thoughts have always been there, so you accept them. If thoughts weren’t in your mind, what would be there? A vacuum? Nothing? How can you think nothing? You just tried and you were unable to stop thinking!

Everyone has spontaneous thoughts. Why be concerned with these random thoughts? They are basically mundane, uneventful, or at least not evil. You’ve made it to adulthood—maturity—maybe even middle age. What’s the problem?

Computers are programmed with a programming language like Java, FORTRAN, or Pascal, as examples. A programming language is a vocabulary and set of grammatical rules for instructing a computing device to perform specific tasks. You may have a rule in your thinking that says I get depressed when ignored, whereas another person may have a thinking rule that says I act to get attention when ignored.

Rewrite Programs to Change Your Life

If you rewrite your programming—rewrite your scripts—you will change your actions and reactions and thereby change your life, your physical and mental health, your quality of life, find peace of mind, and achieve your goals. ‘That’s a big order, but that’s precisely why it’s so exciting. There’s no need to stop with the achievements just mentioned. You can do all of these things and everything else you truly desire. Results are unique. You are in charge. You become the puppet master. You and you alone are in charge of your self-program—your individual program conceived by you and for you and no one but you! You can write your own program just the way you want it.

Since our mind can be likened to a computer, and we agree that we’ve all been programmed, it follows that our life is a kind of printout. That is so important that I must say it again. Our life is a printout. Our emotions, our feelings, our health, our happiness, our successes and failures, our futures are printouts from our personal computers. To change our personal printout, we must first look at our random thoughts and analyze them.

Do you know why you think the way you do?

Listen to them, if that’s more appropriate. Not being inside your mind, I can’t really imagine what’s going on there. I only know what people tell me goes on in their minds and what goes on in mine. If you could tap into my mind, this is what you would find: words, sentences, paragraphs, chapters, vignettes, novellas, short stories, proposed phone calls, explanations, excuses, rationalizations, and more, all carefully constructed, usually grammatically correct dissertations, and always in English, of course. People who are multilingual sometimes say they don’t know which language they think in.

Maybe they think in pictures or feelings. But I can hardly think that words do not play a very important part. Regardless of how you think—in words, pictures, or feelings—The Personal Power Plan will work for you because you know how you think and can adapt the program to fit the unique you.

Although you may know how you think, do you know why you think the way you do? More than likely both the how’s and why’s date back to your infancy and the big programmers in your life—your parents. Parents are usually well-meaning people, but they are human and fallible. So you were initially programmed by a couple of amateurs who were acting out their own faulty programming, learned from a previous set of big programmers—their parents.

My friend Hans was born in East Germany. During the war, his family was forced out of their home with the clothes on their backs and what they could carry. His father spent time as a prisoner of war. Later, his family was fortunate to find a sponsor in this country, which enabled them to immigrate to the United States. Here, his father worked as a barber, his mother was a domestic and took care of children. They both worked hard and put in long hours.

In school, Hans’s classmates laughed at his accent and ridiculed his clothing. Hans worked at odd jobs before and after school, delivering papers, polishing shoes, bagging groceries—anything that would help his parents financially and allow him to buy more appropriate clothes. Hans’s family never bought a home; they always rented. His parents believed home ownership was for the wealthy and privileged, not for the working class. It’s safer to rent than to take on a big mortgage, they reminded Hans whenever the subject came up. His father had several opportunities to open his own shop but never did so; being in business for oneself was risky, he repeatedly told his wife and son; it’s better and safer to be an employee than an employer. No one in Hans’s family had ever attended college.

College was for the upper class, above their station in life, they told Hans again and again. Hans was programmed for mediocrity by his parents. His parents meant well. They sincerely wanted to protect themselves and their son from the financial risks and possible pitfalls of home ownership, business entrepreneurship, and academic competition. They were acting out the programming they had learned from their parents and previous generations brought up under the old European system of class consciousness. Nevertheless, against the advice of his parents, Hans attended college and received his degree in computer science.

Hans was able to break the chain of ongoing parental programming. How? He tells me that people in this country think differently. The idea of equal opportunity really rang a bell for him. He observed people from a variety of backgrounds and all walks of life succeeding here based on their individual efforts and ambition. His parents came from, or thought they came from, a particular station in life, but Hans realized he did not have to be stuck with their concepts. Hans accepted personal responsibility for his future and he worked to break an ongoing pattern to make sure that his future would be the success that he knew he could make it be.

    Who Are the Programmers?

Big programmers are primary, but they are just the beginning. Next in line are the assistant advisors: aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters not to mention neighbors and friends and, as you advance in years, schoolmates and coworkers. Among other areas of influence, assistant advisors contribute to sibling rivalry—that very influential programming known as peer pressure—and what is known as keeping up with the Joneses.

I live in Oakland, California. It is a beautiful city with a bad reputation. Daily, to my dismay, I read about dire rising crime rate in Oakland. An increasing number of our cities’ young people are bending to the pressure of their peers. The result is the increased use of drugs and firearms by those who seem to feel that these will solve their problems. Some assistant advisors carry a great deal of weight.

The authorities can have a very beneficial influence on you or an extremely disastrous one.

Then there are the authorities: teachers, bosses, and political leaders. These people all affect the way you think. The authorities can have a very beneficial influence on you or an extremely disastrous one, depending upon their power and your dependence and vulnerability when under their direction. Good authority figures can inspire, motivate, direct, and lead. Bad or unethical ones can cause irreparable damage to those who come under their command and who must bow to their power.

Many people have a favorite teacher story. Recently, at a meeting of the National Speakers Association, George R. Walther, a dynamite speaker and author of Power Talking: 50 Ways to Say What You Mean and Get What You Want, told the
