She was ten minutes early to the restaurant; one of her favourites when she was with Gavin. As she sipped a large glass of white wine much too quickly, she felt a shiver go down her spine, looked up and He was there in front of her.

“Hello little one,” He said in His incredibly sexy voice. Caroline looked into His face for the first time in an age and saw that nothing had really changed. He was just past fifty she calculated but apart from a bit of distinguished grey on his sideburns, still looked no older than thirty five. Five years younger than she was now, she thought wryly. Immaculately dressed as ever in a black, pin-striped suit and still at the pinnacle of physical fitness; he just radiated sexual energy. “You haven’t changed at all,” he lied as he sat down opposite her.

Caroline summoned up all of the courage and indignation she normally wielded in her professional and domestic life. “Is that all you can say after just walking out on me and disappearing for a decade,” she hurled across the table.

Gavin reached across the table and touched her hand, making her melt and knocking all of her hard fought for bravery right out of her. “I will explain all in good time Caroline,” he said simply and reached for the menu.
