About this ebook

‘I have control’ is an aviation themed, Christian novel depicting the struggles a leader goes through as he or she leads people to their God given destinies. An interestingly unique storyline of an airline pilot`s worst day, every chapter in this volume will take you through various trying situations and how the main character of the book-the captain of Flight 244 and his crew dealt with them. This new book notes the growing trend of leaders who quit before fulfilling their God given mandate. Few books specifically address the millions of leaders who are caught in this trend. The reader will relate his or her personal or business life to these challenges, but most of all he will understand who has control of his or her life. We will not wait to come to the last page of the book to get to ‘the moral of the story’. Every chapter is designed with its special morale and the book will continue to inspire us as we build on towards the conclusion. For every Christian who is unsure if God is still with him or her in the challenges he is facing, here is a book that compassionately assures them that God will never leave nor forsake us.No matter the threats encountered along the way, the reader must always remember that for every takeoff there is a landing. God will never set you off to a start of something that He is not willing to see you through to completion. This book, although it is aviation themed, is written in simple language. It can be easily understood by those who do not know much about aviation too. It is solidly evangelical, theologically accurate and very informed aviation wise. There are many leaders out there who have the right knowledge and charisma but who fail to reach their God given destinies anyway. I have control recognizes this dilemma and presents a uniquely different angle from what many people believe in. The world teaches that having the right knowledge only will solve all your problems and open up new opportunities for you. The author of I have control presents a new perspective – it’s not what you know but WHO you know that matters. If you know God, then you are assured of victory.

I Have Control - Tinashe Yadley Nyangombe

To God, the Creator of the universe and the wind beneath my wings, I love you. Thank you for what you have done, for what you are doing and for what you are about to do.

There is no greater honor on earth than to have a mentor who has a big heart. I am so humbled to have such a mentor - Jean Denis Marcellin, a professional commercial pilot, a writer, a father and leader of leaders. Thank you Jean for allowing God to use you to give me words of encouragement and godly wisdom to sustain me even as I grow my wings.

A special thank you goes to Tarisai Tara 'Shining star'. I am extremely blessed to have you as a companion and confidante. You have always supported me in this endeavor and allowed me the space and time for research and writing. Without your devotion and inspiration this work would never have come to fruition.

I wish to acknowledge the great help I received from Denzel Nyangombe (Apostle), my young brother. Denzel did an amazing design of all the required design work. He is not formally trained to do this, but he did beyond what many trained in the trade would do, without any complaints. I pray that the good Lord increase him in a special way.

My research was very much ameliorated by the inspiring words of one of the world`s best three pilots I know of. Captain Panganai Nigel Kajevu, thank you so much for being a great friend to me, for your originality and for the great words you told me when we were standing in that car park in Gaborone, Botswana. I had only penned three pages of this book but you said you believed there is the voice of God in it. You told me to press on through all the challenges I would meet in getting it published.

Thank you a million times to mum and dad for believing in my wings and for selling your residential stand to fund my flight training. You are the best thing that ever happened to my life. For your countless sacrifices to see me through to success, I am at a loss for words. I’m so grateful for the financial and prayer support, and above all, I thank you for just being you.

To my friends Abba Fanna in Nigeria and Shabbir A Basshar in Bangladesh, you have been angels in disguise to me. Thank you so much Shabbir for the amazing photography you supplied me with.

    DEDICATION

A big thank you to all those who declared that I will fail; I love you all and you are the reason why I fly so high!

    FOREWORD

From the day I had my first flight as a passenger in the year 1996, I knew there was something extraordinary about flying. Ever since then I have learnt that there is more to flying than just flying. It is an extraordinary activity that can teach the keen observer vital truths of life. From the very second a pilot prepares an aircraft for a flight to the final stage of coming to a full stop landing back on the ground, big life lessons that should be fully embraced by all can be drawn from it. My conviction is that every human being, regardless of his or her position in life is like a pilot, a leader who is controlling a `flight` with his people to a particular promised land. The book will take you from flight preparation, takeoff to landing and along the way we will see typical challenges that may impede the safety of your airplane, which in this case is typified as your organization. You will relate your personal or business life to these challenges, but most of all you will learn who remains in control during serious challenges that also occur outside your influence as a flight crew member (operational delays, weather threats and aircraft malfunction).

That is why the Lord led me into writing from a pilot's perspective to record this fundamental encouragement to leaders particularly, leaders all around the world who are facing insurmountable challenges in their journey towards their place of purpose. No matter the threats encountered along the way, always remember that for every takeoff there is a landing. God will never set you off to a start of something that He is not willing to see you through. This book will help you answer the big question: Who has the ultimate control of your destiny? Is it yourself only as a leader or it is God who mostly prefers working as ‘a crew behind the scenes’? I conceived this book as a fundamental encouragement to every leader who has that same question. It will, I hope, particularly interest believers in the aviation industry who have a deeper understanding of the many complexities that one encounters when flying from point A to point B. In the airplane there are a variety of passengers with different characteristics. Some are cooperative in times of difficulty and some are just rude. Everyone at one point or the other in life has encountered such types of people. You will see how I use such a scenario of encountering difficult passengers to relate to the opposition you might be facing in whatever circumstances you have.

Using an interestingly unique storyline of a typical pilot`s day, every chapter in this volume will take you through various trying situations and how my crew and I dealt with them. We will not wait to come to the last page of the book to get to ‘the moral of the story’. Every chapter is designed with its special morale and the book will continue to educate us as we build on towards the conclusion. As one of the main characters in this book, I have been very honest enough to show my weaknesses in dealing with stressful situations, my aim in that being to help the reader to avoid repeating the same mistakes I did. In addition, I hope and expect that pastors planning on embarking upon church planting will find this writing a unique guide in building and sustaining their ministry works.

    Chapter One – The encounter

The task to write my story and outline the hand of God that is always there in times of crisis is not an easy task for me. Yet I must say it as God directed me to. In the eyes of the world my scholarly attempts leave a lot to be desired and I prefer to call myself a student in matters of writing. Words are tyrants, especially when one is unaccustomed to their use. Yet, right now
