About this ebook

Alyssa’s dreams have been filled with visions that both excite and disturb her, deep down to her core. Vampires, those creatures that hold a fascination both terrible and erotic, have been plaguing Alyssa’s thoughts and filling her with desire, even as she navigates her regular life dodging drunken frat boys at work. While nothing about her life seems all that interesting, Alyssa can’t shake the feeling that there is something more mysterious, and perhaps more delightful, waiting for her around the corner.

That is, until a mysterious man named Bran defends her honor one day and raises feelings of intrigue and interest in Alyssa. He looks like a vampire, talks like one, and has both the strength and good looks of the ones who have haunted her dreams. Alyssa begins to wonder if that mystery around the corner is the one right in front of her, because the night can be mysterious, and it can also be incredibly passionate...

The Vampire's Embrace Book 1: For His Dark Hunger

Alyssa rolled out of bed, rubbing sleep from her eyes. A glance at the clock on the floor told her it was two in the afternoon. Time to get up and start her day. With a sigh, she padded toward the bathroom in her tattered Led Zeppelin t-shirt. Her phone rang as she was splashing water on her face. She made no attempt to answer it, waiting for the answering machine to pick up. She’d originally gotten the thing at a street sale as a joke, the big, boxy plastic machine took tapes for god’s sake, but now she kind of loved it. She was the only person she knew who didn’t have a cell phone.

    ‘Lyss, it’s me.

She stiffened at the sound of Chris’ voice, gripping her toothbrush tightly in one hand.

"Listen, I... I really need to come by and get the rest of my stuff. Call me."

The machine beeped and Alyssa began angrily brushing her teeth. He’d have to keep waiting, because she wasn’t ready to see him yet. They’d been together for years and then he just... dropped her. She could still hear his words.

"When you first quit school, I supported you. You were going to write. But now you just sleep all day and work at that bar at night. You’re not doing anything. I want that other girl back, the one who wanted to see the world and experience life."

She’d punched him. Probably not the most mature response, but then again, she hadn’t felt the need to be all that mature at the time. She stuck out her tongue at her glowering reflection and pulled the t-shirt off over her head, tossing into the over-flowing hamper. She ran a hand through the tangled length of her thick, auburn hair while waiting for the water to get hot for her shower.

Alyssa knew she was a big, fat disappointment to everyone. She’d heard it enough times from her parents, how she was wasting all her potential. They barely called at all anymore, apparently unwilling to hear how her writing career wasn’t going. She stepped under the shower’s steaming spray, wetting her hair and letting is cascade down her shoulders, over her breasts and down her belly. The heat relaxed her a bit, woke her up, and washed the last vestiges of sour sleep from her mind.

So she hadn’t planned to be a twenty-two year old college drop out, working nights at a tiny bar in the Faubourg Marigny and living in a crappy apartment in Mid-City. When she’d won the Pushcart Prize at eighteen everyone (including her) had expected her to go on to become a famous writer. And Chris was going to be a doctor and they’d get married and make beautiful bi-racial babies.

But it wasn’t that simple. She’d quickly become burnt out by the pressure of being the perfect college girlfriend and the tedious academia of Tulane’s creative writing program. She’d dropped out to become a writer the old-fashioned way - by writing. Except the burn out had spiraled into a two-year bout of writer’s block.

And here she was, working at Dusty Mud’s, slinging beers and Cuba Libres every night. Not what she’d pictured for her life as a wide-eyed eighteen year old high on the success of her Pushcart win. But the truth was, she kind of liked working at the bar. It was a relatively low stress, and there was no limit to the interesting people she met. Chris had come here for the university, but she’d followed him because it was New Orleans .

She’d been in love with the idea of the city before coming here, but the minute she’d stepped foot on the
