Venice Vampires 7: An Erotic Paranormal Romance

Emily’s heart froze in her chest. She could feel Luc similarly stunned beside her. Then he subtly shifted, moving in front of her, pushing her behind the mass of his body. The Medici’s eyes narrowed but his gaze never fell away from Emily. Then he smiled—a wide charming smile that was as disarming as it was sickening. Come, bella. I’ve lost everything tonight. You know that. It’s because of you—for you. And now you must come with me.

That will not happen, Luc said, his voice a low, feral growl. You have nothing left. You have no right, no dominion over anybody, and Emily is mine.

The Medici’s fangs were extended. Perhaps it was a trick of the light, but Emily thought she could see the slightest pink smear of her blood standing out against one delicate, pale fang. Before she could take another breath, they had sprung towards each other. She could not say, afterwards, who had made the first move. Luc, she was sure, was unconscious before he hit the cold cobbles with a slap.

The Medici did not waste any more time on this, but stepped over Luc’s inert body and took Emily by the wrist. As he dragged her through the dirty back alleys of Venice, it occurred to Emily that she could have struggled, could have cried out, in much the same way as it occurred to her after she left her ex-boyfriend that she could have fought back, could have left sooner. She was grateful, in these minutes that felt like hours, that she had learned through experience that sometimes staying silent is the best way to stay alive. The Medici wanted her. She doubted he minded what state she was in. What was one more bruised and bloodied body to this man, when all he really
