    CHAPTER ONE

    Chapter

Calvin's words echoed in Antonica's head as she drove Talon up the mountain to her home. He didn't reek of blood, ever, he was not a hunter, and he was certainly not a slayer. But this did little to console her.

So, these bonfires... Talon asked. Your family does them every month? Why?

Well, it's just one of those family traditions, I guess. It started a long, long time ago and we never really stopped. She said.

And you never told me about them before now. Why? He asked as he stared at the trees passing by.

Antonica turned into the dirt road that led up to her house near the highest point on the mountain. I am sure there are things about your family that you haven't told me. The important thing is that I am telling you now.

She could smell the gold ring in his pocket, and even though she had decided a while ago to tell Talon about her secret, that he deserved to know, when he started asking all of those serious questions about their future together, she knew she had to tell him before he proposed.

Part of her was giddy as a schoolgirl. She caught herself staring at wedding dresses, floral arrangements and rings for hours. But then her wolf would emerge, reminding her of the more visceral aspects of what being married to Talon would mean.
