Finding Your Vocation - Cincinnatus Hibbard

    9781480000000

CHAPTER 1 : YOUR VOCATION IN LIFE ; THE FIRST PART OF THE METHOD OF IDENTIFYING YOUR VOCATION, THE ART METHOD

This paper receives the sub title: " What You Should Do With Your Life " because

This work is the direct answer to the question : "what should I do with my life ? "

The answer, or, the form the answer takes is

    Your specific vocation or calling.

This work then takes the form of the general method of a patterning of experiences

That leads up to the discovery of your specific vocation or calling in life,

    And away.

As young people, we are not wholly uneducated in the method of discovering

    Our calling in life.

Part of the method is handed down to us from our elders in their advice to

" Go out and experience life, "

    And try new things.

But the problem, that is, the second problem with this partial method of discovering

Ourselves and our vocation in life

Is the problem of all the commonplaces, adages, proverbs, formulae, advice

Handed down to us from old age …

The mnemonic simplicity and the minimalist power and the truth

With which they reduce life can only be understood and appreciated by those who

    Have a lifetime of experience.

For the reason they are so meaningful to the old

Their advice is almost meaningless to the young.

In the first part of this work

I will expand on the advice to "go out and experience life,"

    Proceeduralizing it.

    Reasoning it out.

    And

    Proving it with my experience.

    In the second part

I will give the second part of the method

Missing from the general advice to "go and experience what life as to offer"

An idea for a book series is to expand each of a series

Of commonplaces and proverbs from phrases and

Sentences into monograms or short books. They would

Each terminate on the commonplace or proverb

So their timeline would bring the young reader to

The simplicity and power of old age or terminal

Philosophy in time to benefit from it.

The procedure for go[ing] out and experienc[ing] all that life has to offer

    Is this

    Before going out

    Among your choice of activities,

Choose the activity that stands in the highest contrast to the number of activities

That you have experienced in your life.

Each time choose the newest activity,

And progressively the number of activities you have experienced in your life

Will come to be the number of experiences life has to offer.

    Proceeduralized,

The general advice for finding your calling in life / finding yourself /

    Enjoying life

    Is relatable and equitable

With the operational and procedural definition of avant gard.

The proceeduralization of the two reveal their identity.

With the operationalized definition of the avant gard

Of all the possible art experiences you can make

    You make the experience

Which stands in the greatest contrast to the body of art experiences

    You have had before.

If you make this choice – the avant gard choice, each time,

You will proceed – progress on a series of new art experiences

Until the number of your art experiences becomes

    All the possibility in art.

I relate my proceeduralization of " experience[ing] all the experiences

Life has to offer you" with the avant gard method

To equate it with a powerful-results method

And to define the choices you make as bold choices,

The new activities as radically new process.

They will need to be to realize the promised result.

The method of go[ing] out and experiencing] all that life has to offer you

Is the method of discovering your vocation in life

    The method of discovering yourself

    Because

It reveals among activities all your likes and amities and pleasures

Which are attendant the satisfaction of all your needs and wants.

The method of choosing the new activity

Also reveals all your dislikes and enmities and displeasures

    And dissatisfactions.

    This is important self knowledge

Important in your choice of occupations,

But for brevity, I will limit this work to the discussion of

Likes and pleasures revealed by the method.

    You might counter, reader,

That you already know all the things that will give you pleasure & satisfaction

And, that you have a method –

From the choice life offers you, each time choosing the activity that is most similar

To an activity that has given you gratification in past experience.

I don't know all the activities that pleasure me and satisfy my wants and

    Needs.
