Warning: This book can cause mild to severe nostalgia. The severity of it depends how well you can still remember your high school days. This is a story two best friends and their journey towards high school life i.e, first day jitters, boy problems, new school, new environment, new friends and new enemies. I like how Monica and Claudia alternatingly told the story from their point of view, it makes it more intimate and personal. I also like how each POV have this distinct characteristic in them that made it easy for me to distinguish whose POV is it. This made me reminisce my high school day, I'm glad I survived that one. It was a short and light read, and I would higly recommend this to kids and teens. Definitely they will learn a thing or two from this best of friends, Monica and Claudia.

We’ve been friends forever.

And now we’re in high school.

Two best friends,

getting ready to face

the world of boys,

homework, tests, romance,

and growing up.

Thank goodness we have each other.

It’s just another ordinary day in my sometimes-way-too-complicated life.

I oversleep, but I don’t rush getting dressed or combing out my hair or putting on just enough make-up to show off my eyes and cover a tiny zit on my chin.

Then, like every day, Mom wants me to eat breakfast. I don’t have time, so she argues. I promise not to wilt during fourth-period English, and I grab a banana to eat on the bus.

I’d have more time to spend at home if Jimmy would give me a ride, but he won’t. He never does. Or hardly ever, anyway. At first it was kind of frustrating, but I’m over it. The bus ride gives me a few extra minutes to spend with my friends on the way to school, and it’s a chance to get a bit of homework done on the way home.

Monica doesn’t ride the bus anymore. Now that she and Rory are officially together, he’s been picking her up every morning. She waltzes into homeroom every day just before the bell rings, smiling and with stars in her eyes.

I can’t wait till Brad gets his license. His birthday is before mine, so he’ll get to take his drivers’ test first. He’s even taking private driving lessons already. It will be really great when my boyfriend can drive me to school. Rory offered to pick me up every day, but I know he and Monica love having their private time in the morning. I mean, I wouldn’t want to share my time with Brad, either.

Thinking about him still gives me shivers. My heart races when Brad walks into a room, and I get breathless when our eyes meet. His smile lights up my world.

And I don’t even care that he can’t drive. It’s not like that’s what I’m dating him for. But I have to admit that the perks of having Brad Turino as my boyfriend . . . well, they’re pretty good. I’m the girlfriend of the Pine Creek Panthers’ new star quarterback, so I’m automatically a popular cool kid. That’s like winning the grand prize after years of being an unimportant nobody in the middle school masses.

Those days are over!

After I get off the bus, Brad catches up to me in the hall, and after a quick kiss, we walk to homeroom together, holding hands.

Three girls flirt with Brad as they pass by.

Hi, Brad!

Great game last Friday.

I’ll see you in science.

They don’t talk to me, like pretending I don’t exist will make me vanish or something. I don’t care. I’m not worried that Brad’s going to start liking someone else. Everyone knows he and I are together, and he and I know we’re going to be together for a while.

I don’t look back, but I can feel the dirty looks.

Our friends wave when we walk into Room 248. The morning homeroom buzz is all about Halloween this coming weekend.

What’s the deal with the big party the Sutton brothers are having Friday night? Anna asks.

I didn’t know they were throwing a party, Monica says.

It’s news to me, too. I’ve never met the three Sutton boys, but everyone in school knows who they are.

Max is a sophomore, Alec is a junior, and Dylan is a senior. They’re all gorgeous, popular, and smart. A Halloween party at their house would be amazing. I want to go!

I don’t know them, Brad says.

My spirits sink, but only a little. Brad is a football star. I’m sure he’s on the guest list.

Does Jordan know Max? Carly asks Anna. They’re both sophomores.

Um, no. Jordan is a sweet, clueless nerd, Anna says. Not exactly the type to hang out with the Sutton brothers.

So I’m guessing you’re not going to the party with Jordan? I ask.

Anna shakes her head. He wasn’t invited.

I bet Rory knows something about it, Monica says.

We can ask him at lunch, I say. Nobody in our crowd is more connected than Rory Weber. He’s in a band, he’s on the football team, and he’s a sophomore.

Having a party on the brain makes it hard to concentrate in class. All morning, all I can think about is that I need to be able to go to that Halloween party. It’s time to cement my status as one of the cool kids.

In English, Sylvia has partying on her mind, too. We’re having the Fourth Annual Slother Scare & Scream Halloween Bash on Friday night, she
