INTRODUCTION
Every week, I spend about forty hours at school. That’s as much time as my dad spends at his job. SCHOOL IS SERIOUS BUSINESS. And when you’re thirteen, like me, school is the center of your complicated life!
School is where we see our friends, practice for sports, play instruments, rehearse plays, write newspaper articles . . . and a lot more. Plus, we go to classes, study, take tests, and turn in homework.
School is SUPER IMPORTANT to me and my friends. And it’s not just because our future depends on it. It’s because I spend so much time there.
This is your guide to SURVIVING middle school. I hope it makes your life a little less complicated!
CHAPTER 1:
SCHOOL SAVVY
Get ready, get there, get organized
Quiz: What’s your school style?
It’s two weeks before the school year starts. YOU:
plan EXACTLY what you’re going to wear the entire first week, color-coordinate your school supplies, and taste-test lunch options.
try to watch as MUCH TV as possible now. Once you have homework, you probably won’t have much time. Oh, and you might pick up a few of the supplies you need, too.
DON’T CHANGE A THING. There’s still two weeks left of summer!
How much time do you need to get ready for school every morning?
At least two hours.
As long as there’s time for a bowl of cereal, you’re pretty much fine.
You just wake up and head for the bus.
What’s your homework routine?
As soon as you get home, you finish EVERYTHING
You get it done sometime between getting home and class the next day. You don’t stress about it.
Homework? Were you assigned something?
How do you pick out what you’re going to wear?
Every week, you plan the next week’s outfits.
You think about it the night before, but it’s not a big deal.
You wear whatever’s cleanest.
If you scored:
MOSTLY A’S: Your style is overachiever. It is good to work hard. But don’t forget to have fun, too!
MOSTLY B’S: It sounds like you have a good attitude about school. But don’t slack
