What Makes Me...Keisha: What Makes Me...

About this ebook
Keisha truly believes that she is the best at everything, whether it's gymnastics, ballet, soccer, reading, or just about anything! All of the other kids must see her talent also because they listen to her when she tells them what to do or where to go. Why, even the teachers know how smart and talented she is and love having her and her friends share their abilities with the rest of the students!
It takes a heart to heart talk with Mom for Keisha to realize that just maybe she isn't as popular as she thinks she is. Maybe other kids aren't in awe of her. Maybe they don't even want to be her friend. It takes that talk with Mom, seeing what Dad is doing with her little brother, and an injury for Keisha to realize that the world doesn't really revolve around her. The question is, what happens now?

I grew up without a father so Mom raised my sister, brother, and me as a single parent when it wasn’t that common. It wasn’t easy for her, but she was always there for us. I really miss her and I dedicate this book to her.

Dear Ms. Rudnick,
I want you to know that I think all of us writing our autobiographies is an excellent idea and I’ll be working really hard to make mine the best in the class. There I was in my seat working on a story I’m writing when you called all of us up to the front of the class. It’s kind of funny how I can really be concentrating on something, but then immediately change gears when something else that’s important comes up. I don’t know if many kids, or even adults, can do that so I guess I’m just lucky that way. I told Charmin, Ethan, and Sophie to go up for your announcement when they weren’t even moving, which they did, even though they made faces at me. Maybe they didn’t hear you or maybe they were just thinking about something else. I’m not really sure. All I know is that it sounded really interesting to me even if some of the kids weren’t that excited. I think that’s because some kids really don’t like to write, but writing is one of those subjects that I’ve always liked and been good at. I’ve even been told by kids and adults who’ve read stories I’ve written that I should be an author when I grow up. I don’t know about that because there’s a lot of things that I’m pretty good at, but I do know that I’ll do my best to explain What makes me…Keisha
and I know you’ll enjoy reading it.
Keisha
Dear Ms. Rudnick:
I thought it would be a good idea to include a copy of the note my parents sent in after I explained the assignment and they read your letter:
As Keisha’s parents, we’re very pleased that you’ve assigned each student to write their own autobiography in order to describe how they’ve grown up to become the mature fourth grade students that they are. As you know from seeing Keisha’s report cards from earlier grades and from speaking to her teachers from those years, Keisha always does her best work and I’m sure you will be very pleased with the results. If it would be of help, perhaps there are other students in the class who would benefit from extra help that I’m sure Keisha would be willing to provide. Marcia and I would also be willing to speak with parents if their child isn’t as motivated as Keisha. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance in this area.
Sincerely,
Robert and Marcia McCluskey

Dear Ms. Rudnick,
Well, the first thing I decided was to do my autobiography like a diary. If you’ve never had a diary, it’s sort of like a personal journal that someone keeps. It’s usually private, although in this case you’ll be reading what I write and so will my parents. They said that even though I’m really good at expressing myself, they’d still like to be able
