“Between Christmas and New Year? I call it the festive gooch”

It’s with affection that we’ve laughed at the mishaps of Erin, Saoirse-Monica Jackson’s lovable lead in Derry Girls, for the past four years. The good news is she’s just as funny (and just as passionate about the Spice Girls) in real life

What’s been your highlight of 2022?

One of my highs was going to Glastonbury. It was my first time and I basically just watched my boyfriend [DJ Denis Sulta] and hung out with my mates, it was great. The Derry Girls finale screening in Derry, my hometown, was also an epic moment; the whole city turned out for it. I guess the end of the show was a low, but it felt very natural and we’re all excited about what the future holds.

What’s the best thing you’ve worked on this year?

It has to be Derry Girls. The reaction to the final series airing this year was incredible, especially hearing that some of the Spice Girls had watched it. After I’d dressed up as Geri Halliwell (my favourite) in episode two, it was a dream come true.

What would you like to leave in 2022?

Leaving things until the last minute. I’m such a procrastinator, especially when it comes to booking flights, so I’d like to be really on it with my travel planning next year.

What’s guaranteed to make you laugh?

. I love the sibling relationship between David and Alexis, but Moira is the best. I find their whole family dynamic so funny that I can put
