    Chloe sat on the rock strewn beach. The warm breeze blew in off the sea and she caught the scents of fish, salt and seaweed. It smelled different from home. A different body of water. Much, much warmer than Puget Sound. She dug her toes into the sand and warmish water pooled around them, flooding up to her ankles. The tide was coming in. The sun caressed her skin, exposed from beneath the skimpy sundress. It was so hot, she’d gone without panties. A common thing for her on this trip. She didn’t handle the heat well.

    She was alone, finally. Her friends and all the villagers, it seemed, had gone to the festival. She was tired of the endless festivals they’d visited on their trip through Europe and Asia. They seemed to hit one in every town they visited. She’d grown weary of traveling, altogether. It had been three months and more countries than she could count.

    She just wanted to be alone, spend time on the beach and soak in the sea. Maybe she’d let them leave her behind for a week or two.

    The water tickled her feet, reminding her of the tide level. If Chloe wanted to explore that rock formation and sea cave she heard about, she better get moving, before high tide put it underwater. She slipped on her water shoes and stood, walking down the beach. The sand gritted in her shoes, but she ignored it.
