About this ebook
A brutal dictator, an American couple, a group of exiled dissidents, and innocent people become desperately entangled in the web of the Doublestar Conspiracy.
‘Finally, he slowly forced his body up, then reached down, took hold of Kathy's elbow, and gently coaxed her to her feet. When he stepped out into the clearing, the exposure created a strong feeling of nakedness.
"I'm sure that this will take us to the entrance road. We can then follow it to get help." Although he used the word sure, inside, he had a real lack of confidence feeling.
With no further comment, they moved out. As they progressed, the scary feeling that their antagonists were hiding behind every tree was starting to consume his every thought. At that time, also, the moon, though it was not yet visible, was not far below the top of the horizon, and projected upon the scene a faint gleam of light.
Since the land was more open, and with the welcome added light, they were able to make better time, and Bob felt that they were steadily putting valuable distance between themselves and the menacing trio. Quietly, they worked their way through a grove of tall trees scattered along the bottom of a small ridge. The eerie light was creating some apprehension.
Suddenly, they both froze in their tracks. Not a muscle moved nor a breath was taken. A figure was silhouetted in the dim moonlight on the top of the ridge, a short distance in front of them. They were in a small clearing, and frustratingly, with all the trees surrounding them, there was not one tree close enough to provide shelter. Standing motionless, Bob stared at the figure, afraid even to move his eyes. He knew that there was a chance of blending in with the rest of the shadows if they did not move. And anyway, standing still right now was easy. He was paralyzed.
The figure also stood motionless. Several long seconds passed. The two parties seemed to be in a staring standoff. The man flashed on his light. Bob and Kathy both made a frantic dive for the ground and lay prone.
Blood, propelled by a rapidly beating heart, raced out of control in Bob’s body. Then, thankfully, he realized that something in the woods in front of them had captured the man's attention, not them, but possibly the movement of an animal. The man concentrated the beam in that area, flooding it with light. Finally, he seemed satisfied, swung the light around in a rapid, haphazard, cursory inspection of the rest of the area, then shut it off. He remained motionless for several seconds, then turned and disappeared from view down the other side of the ridge.
Bob stared at the spot vacated by the man. After several moments, he felt the immediate danger was past. He rose quickly, again jerking Kathy to her feet, while still scanning the surrounding terrain. He felt Kathy sag next to him. He grabbed her. .
"Bob, my heart can't take much more."
Bob squeezed more tightly. "I know.” Then letting go he said, “But we’ve got to get out of here - fast.” ’
If you are searching for an action-packed, rapidly-moving adventure story with lots of twists and turns, and a ton of soul-searching that culminates in an explosive finale, Doublestar Conspiracy may be just the novel for you.

The time the author spent in the Middle East clearly lent realism to this thriller that rockets right along. This in not your basic formula book. The settings and scenes kept me guessing. Enough detail to make the book interesting, but not so much to bog the story down.

Bill Wilke grew up in New Orleans, attended Louisiana State University, and is now retired in the Lake Tahoe, Nevada area. Between college and retirement, he spent nineteen years in the Middle East, eleven in Egypt, under the rule of President Mubarack, and four years in Libya, under the rule of Colonel Khadafy. This has enabled him to get to know this region's people, their mind-sets, customs, culture, and has afforded an exposure to ruthless dictatorships. This experience has provided the inspiration and the foundation for two novels that are anchored in the Middle Eastern culture, an action-packed, thought-provoking adventure novel entitled "Doublestar Implosion", and a delightful, educational children's novel, "Maadi's Adventures in Egypt".
