Hi,I have just turned 50 and am really into my sports primarily running and jujitsu.Despite writing about what for me is a mega cycling adventure, I am not really a cyclist or an author, apparently we all have a book in us, you may read this and decide this isn't mine. Will there be more books, doubt it but we will see.

Introduction
On 3rd July a team of three of us headed off to Penzance to start the Lands End to John O’Groats cycling challenge. This is around 950-1000 miles of cycling which we did over 12 days (10 cycling and 2 hill climbing). We did the trip without vehicle support, which meant we carried all our own gear with us. Whilst cycling we raised some money for the Anthony Nolan charity.
Introducing the team members:
Dave Dean, it was Dave who put forward the initial idea of doing this trip, something he has always wanted to do. Dave had previously cycled the length of France with support. Dave was also our designated team mechanic and the charity is one Dave has a strong connection with.
Ian Herrington, the oldest member of the team but also the most accomplished cyclist in the team. Ian was the brains behind putting the route together and arranged the overnight stops. Unfortunately for Ian he started the trip with a cold which turned into a chest infection; this often had him awake about 5am. We didn’t hear one complaint about it; he just got on with the ride. Ian was also on a two week long crusade to use his senior citizen rail card, only managing to use it once.
Mark Weber (that’s me) the youngest but least experienced cyclist of the team. This trip was something to accomplish to celebrate my 50th birthday. Working full time I didn’t have the time to put in all the long distance runs the other guys did, and I also did the trip without clip in pedals (a mistake).
