Mid Ride
As we sipped our coffees, and tucked into pieces of cake the size of a brick, one of my co-tourists, Jeremie, was congratulating our guide rider Tim about the choice of route that had taken us to this café. It was only our first day on the road with the Highland Scramble, and we were only just leaving Edinburgh for our first night of glamping at the Muiredge site in Auchterarder, but it was already good – very, very good!
“Tomorrow will be even better,” was Tim’s reply. He was not wrong.
Strong start
The Highland Scramble is very much like a standard motorcycle tour, inasmuch that it involves riding motorcycles on great roads in beautiful surroundings. However, it has its unique characteristics that set it apart from many others.
One of the defining factors is food. Throughout the trip the emphasis is on great-quality, locally-sourced food. That was clear from the first night, when we feasted on an Italian and Mexican-inspired, but fiercely Scottish dinner prepared by the mobile arm of Delvino, one of the finest restaurants in Auchterarder.
The group that I was touring with was mainly French, and it says something about the quality of the food that as we ganneted our way through the meal, they were all nodding their heads with expressions ranging from surprise to delight on their faces.
