A loud knock on the door startled Kori, making her glance up from the computer in surprise. She glanced at the time, frowning. She had no idea who would be knocking at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, but she was determined to just ignore it and get back to the article she was writing. She had been terribly sick for a week, and though feeling better, was way behind on her work. She had a deadline to meet, and she wasn't up for distractions. The knock came again, louder this time, and she let out a tired sigh. Whoever it was, they weren't going to go away. She stood and stalked to the door, annoyed enough that she didn't check the peephole before pulling it open.

She was so shocked to see Derek standing on her doorstep that she didn't try to stop him when he pushed passed her. He was sitting on the couch before she could even spin around. Frowning, she turned to face him. What are you doing here?

I came to chat, he replied with a smile, and the slur in his voice told her he'd been drinking.

Her hands were on her hips instantly, and she glared at him. I'm busy, Derek. You know I do most of my work from home. Get out.

Come on now, Sweet cheeks, don't be like that. I just came to talk, nothing more. He patted the couch next to him, his smile widening.

She let out a huge sigh. She wasn't in the mood for bullshit from him, but it seemed unlikely that he would just go away either, especially if he'd been drinking. Shaking
