Where do you think you are going? an angry voice cried behind her. Clara ignored it and continued her way toward the door. She was furious at Ben, the owner of the voice, and she wanted out, out of the apartment, possibly out of their relationship.

Don't you walk away from me, Clara, Ben snapped behind her, sounding about as furious as she felt. She sensed him moving toward her and quickened her pace. She wanted to reach the door before he could stop her, but she didn't think she was going to make it.

A hand locked on her shoulder, pulling her to an abrupt stop. She shrugged it off and tried to continue forward. She'd had enough of his bullshit for one day. She didn't want to accept his apologies (not that she really believed he was about to give one). She didn't even want to look at him.

He grabbed at her again, and this time, she wasn't able to shrug him off. Let me go, Ben.

I don't see that happening, he growled fiercely, spinning her to face him. He looked furious. His normally pale face was flushed red with anger, his lips pinched so tight together they seemed to disappear, and his green eyes all but blazed. He glared at her, and she wondered briefly if he was about to strike her. A part of her wanted him to, as sick as that was. If he did, she would have the justification she needed to make herself leave for good this time. But he wouldn't do it. Ben was a lot of things but an abuser was not one of them.
