About this ebook

Rejection oftentimes,is an offensive act to many people. Two animals, Gorgeous the Terrapin and Squawk the Penguin are not admitted to parties on land or in water; they are rejected. They are told they belong in neither water nor on land and therefore are not allowed to associate with the animals who make the two places their home.

Angry over the embarrassment, they decide to take revenge against the leaders of the animals in water and on land. The two behemoths, Maxomax the Elephant and Razormouth the Great White Shark are in trouble as Gorgeous the Terrapin challenges them to a tug-of-war. Jaunty the Fox, friends to both Gorgeous and Squawk, is present and will help. Even if a ruse, "a win is a win," says Gorgeous after the battle. But Squawk the Penguin and Jaunty the Fox have other ideas.

    The Ruse of the Terrapin

How the Turtle Defeated the Elephant and the Great White Shark

One night at ebb tide, Gorgeous the Terrapin left the tranquil sea and went on a mission to the beach. It was time for her to lay the many eggs she was carrying within her but she could not lay them in the sea. The eggs must be laid at a convenient spot in the sands of the beach. While on the mission she met Jaunty the Fox on the way and after a brief exchanged of greetings, she moved on fast intent on reaching the right spot she wanted, a spot not beaten down by beach-goers where she could lay her eggs in safety. As much as she needed to lay her precious eggs without delay because of the overpowering urge that came upon her, she also had to spend some time looking around for a spot that would be hidden from everyone to prevent the eggs from being stolen or tampered with. So she slowed her pace and looked around carefully. Finally, she found the ideal spot and set about making a comfortable pad immediately, a nest dug out of sand and debris of any material that was around. She ensured that her nest was secure, strong, and good enough to hold the eggs before she began to lay them, which event took quite a while before she was done with it. After laying the eggs, she kept still and rested before she covered them neatly with sand and more debris and moved away, ready to return again to the sea. She turned once and looked at her nest and satisfied, she went away.

It was not long before she came to the same spot where she and Jaunty the Fox met earlier.

Were you waiting here all this time? she questioned Jaunty the Fox.

Oh no, but it's wonderful that we're meeting here again. I'm coming back from meeting a friend and I'd never expected to see you again right here on this same spot, replied Jaunty, laughing.

Well then, that's a nice coincidence, said Gorgeous.

Yes, it's a nice coincidence, agreed Jaunty. I went out there to visit my friend, Squawk the Penguin. I'm going home now because he's about to go down into the sea soon.

Just after Jaunty the Fox finished the sentence, Squawk the Penguin appeared and approached them to pass by. Jaunty the Fox stopped him and introduced him to Gorgeous the Terrapin.

I want you to meet my friend Squawk, said Jaunty, introducing him to Gorgeous the Terrapin. And this is Gorgeous, Squawk.

Nice to meet you, said Squawk.

It's nice to meet you too, responded Gorgeous the Terrapin.

I suppose the two of you were having a discussion; I've to proceed...
