During the course of a working day the lunch break is a cherished time. Not only does it divide the day into two shorter, more psychologically acceptable segments, but it allows one to take a break from one's workday routine while munching on something that's hopefully tasty. This collection of recipes demonstrates how to look forward to lunch while saving money. It starts off with a history of the sandwich and then presents a list of kitchen ingredients essential for creating exciting sandwich combinations. Included are recipes for sandwiches featuring cheese, other vegetarian and vegan items, fish and seafood, and meat, as well as a few hot wrap choices.

Having grown up in Long Beach, California, I spent a decade in Seattle and currently live in England, originally in Kent and now in Yorkshire. I have 28 years of experience in computer graphics programming and website design and 21 years of experience writing about coffee and beer. I have contributed articles to local CAMRA publications, Tramlines, and SmellTheCoffee.Com. I have also written music reviews and blurbs for tourist attractions. I have appeared on local radio as Sheffield's resident American coffee aficionado. Among my many jobs I have worked on a research project on the Sheffield Flood of 1864. I have also been a digital photographer of antiques and of tourist attractions. I currently work in a university library. Besides writing I also play piano and keyboards, I cartoon a bit, and I'm pretty good at table tennis. I have a degree in Radio, TV, and Film Production with a minor in Music Composition and a diploma in Computer Programming, and I can speak a bit of Spanish, French, and Russian. And, of course, I am fluent in British, American, and Yorkshire English.

INTRODUCTION
During the course of a working day the lunch break is a cherished time. Not only does it divide the day into two shorter, more psychologically acceptable segments, but it allows one to take a break from one's workday routine while munching on something that's hopefully tasty.
I especially look forward to my lunch breaks because I look forward to my sandwiches I bring from home. In fact I like my own sandwiches so much that I'm disappointed when I haven't the time to make my lunch and am forced to buy something from a shop or takeaway.
The reason I've put together this cookbook is so that I can share my passion for good sandwiches and perhaps inspire people to save money by bringing a lunch from home. Although a few of the ingredients I use might seem a bit dear, they're still a bargain when you consider how much sandwiches can cost in a cafe or shop. And if you're saving all that money by not purchasing your lunch, you can afford to treat yourself a bit.

HISTORY
The history of the sandwich may well have started with the history of the original filling, meat. As long as humans have existed they have been catching, killing, and eating meat and fish. It is commonly believed that the first cooked meat was discovered as a result of a forest fire. At some point a clever—
