Introduction
Do you ever look back over your life and see all the things you would have changed? Wonder what path your life would have taken if you had only made a different choice? Or look back through your memories and think about all the things you went through just trying to find one thing. The one thing to make your whole life make sense.
In this story, one man who re-unites with his daughter, tells the story of his life and all the things he went through looking for that one thing that all people look for, and only the lucky few ever find.
Even facing the end of his life, he is full-filled when he does find the one thing that made all the trials in his life seem worth it.
Chapter 1
I know we all have our own stories about how each of our lives turn out and what were the different things that we wanted for ourselves and we all had those big ideas about what all we would accomplish. One thing I learned was that somewhere we all looked for love and we all find it in some fashion or way that many will just settle for and not look further for what it could really mean in our lives. We tend to think that this is the best it will ever be and we settle.
Well I for one was not willing to just settle any longer I mean I knew what I wanted and I didn’t take anything less than what I wanted. I had for so long in my life just settled and it was not good enough for me any longer. I had reached a point that I figured it could not get any lower so the only place to go was up.
I suppose the best advice I could give anyone that is looking for any answers is just know what you want and don’t stop looking until you find what you want. Don’t waste this life just settling thinking that it will not get any better. I for one know if you look you will find and no matter how long you get to keep it does not matter, the fact is you found what you were looking for and you held on for the longest time that you could hold on for with no regrets.
I was born in a small town of about 1500 people, this was back in 1969 in the month of September. I had one older brother and two younger brothers. I was not particularly close to any of my brothers when I was young. My older brother did all the things any older brother would do and picked on me every chance he could find. I mean we would pass in the hall way and he would shove me and the fight was on. I never won the fights when we were young but I tried my best to stand up to him.
Then I can recall a time when our family went with other relatives to a local Jelly stone camp ground. I was around five or six years old when we all went camping. I recall my mother sitting at the far end of the pool just lying out catching some sun and talking to some other relatives that were there with us at the pool.
I went walking around the end of the pool that was at the deep end and the people that owned the park had been having some work done by the pool as I recall a big pile of dirt next to the pool with a big yellow ribbon around it trying to warn people of the big hole that had been dug. I of course being the stubborn little guy I was did not want to walk all the way around the pool to get down to where everyone was so I stepped between the yellow ribbon and the edge of the pool.
As I stepped on the loose dirt, I did not think of the water making the dirt mud and it being so slick. I stepped on the mud and my foot slipped and down I went. When I slipped I struck my forehead on the edge of the concrete and slipped into the water. Yes I had knocked myself out and that is why I made no noise when I went under the water. I can remember slipping and going down but the next thing I remember is looking up, and I could see myself floating in the water just above me. I was face down in the water and I was not making any movements.
I can recall looking up and I could tell that it was me, but at the same time I knew it was not me because I was right here looking up. As I was there just looking up at myself, I was in an instance taken from there. Now I recall standing in a field of flowers. I was looking around and I could see the flowers, but different than what I was used to looking at. I saw flowers in colors I had not seen before.
That for me was weird because my family owned a florist and nursery so flowers was something that I was very used to looking at every day. I could also see the birds flying around in the air and the rabbits jumping around the field. While standing there taking it all in
