About this ebook

In 1954, the USDA established the Plum Island animal disease center. They were reported to be conducting biological warfare research. It was then reported that in 1994, Russian scientists inspected the island to confirm that the testing had ended. Nothing else was reported to the public about what was being done on the island, until the news leaked that foot and mouth disease had consumed the animals on the island.
The government reported that all of the animals on the island had been destroyed. Then the news about the island ceased until rumors and a few photos of unidentifiable animals started washing up on nearby beaches. Rumors spread about new biological and viral testing being done on the island. This time, the government remained silent on the issue giving no comment.
Then a group of scientists and conspiracy theorists began conducting surveillance of the island, trying to capture video evidence of what may be happening on the island and what agencies may be involved. They began boating around the island, keeping twenty-four hour surveillance on all boats and aircraft going to and from the island. Then the people keeping surveillance on the island began disappearing. The disappearances were being reported to the local authorities, but nothing was being done and the police would not investigate the disappearances, writing them off to pranks.
The group eventually decided to hire an ex-military man to infiltrate the island and try to find the missing scientists and to capture any evidence that he can as to what kinds of research they are doing in the labs on the island. They hired Jacob Williams to go to the island and try to find the missing people. He goes from trying to find some missing people, to fighting for his life, and trying to stop the spread of a contamination that could end the human race.

Once Jacob Williams finished his career with the Army Rangers, he had decided that he wanted to move to a small town where life was much slower. He wanted to be able to find himself a house, a short distance in the country where he would be able to live a quiet life. He was hoping to be left alone by main stream society and just live as he saw fit. He was tired of the violence that he had endured when he had served in Iraq, and Afghanistan. He was looking forward to the silence of the country life, and the solitude that he was hoping to find.

He looked and looked for the perfect little town, the one town where everyone knew everyone else, and if there were any strangers word would be around in no time. He wanted to live near a town where he would feel safe from anyone that would want to try and track him down, to ask him to do some work that would take him back to the days that he wanted to leave behind him and forget. He wanted to not to have to worry about looking over his shoulder for someone that may be coming for some pay back for something that he had done.

He searched and searched when he had time off from his job, then one day when he was talking with another member of his team, and he was told about a quaint little town. It sounded to him like it would be the perfect place for him to retire and just live a quiet life. Then one week when he had some leave, he made a trip to the little town, and had to just check it all out for himself. He arrived at the town and stayed a few days in the local motel. He was sure to check out all the town had to offer. Eventually he found an old two story house just outside of town and it was for sale. It was an older Victorian style home, it was sitting on ten acres and was straddled by several steel outbuildings that he thought would be perfect for him to tinker around inside.

He looked at the house, and instantly liked the place. He even liked the fact that the old house was not so perfect. It had the paint peeling and needed a face lift, but he loved it all the same. He immediately called the real estate agent and made an offer on the place. It was only a day or so, then he heard back and they had accepted his offer and he had himself the place in the country that he had been looking for. But for now he had to go back to the base and begin the paperwork for his discharge.

Once the paper work had gone through, and he was honorably discharged from the service, he packed everything that he owned into his camouflage painted pickup truck and drove from the base directly to the new place that he had purchased just outside that small town. He was looking forward to the rest of his life in peace and quiet.

Jacob had no idea that even as he was packing his bags, that there was a lot of attention being given to Plum Island. There was a lot of people asking questions about what the government was actually using the island for and what they were really doing there. There were many stories about what was going on and what people were seeing in the night skies over and around that place.

There had been media coverage about different boats from different branches of the government going to and from the island on a regular basis and there were many theories about what they were doing. There were also many stories going around about illegal experiments that were taking place on the island. Some were the average ghost stories that you hear, and some are stories that you hear about secret weapons research. There really were no definite facts about what was going on and the powers that be would not say a word about what was going on out there on the island. There had even been stories floating around that the people on the island were using humans as guinea pigs for new strains of viruses and for testing the drugs to cure the viruses.

Of course there is no way to confirm those stories and there was no way the government was going to confirm nor deny the stories. The only things that the government would confirm was that there were groups of activist’s that were trying to gain access to the island and that many people were being arrested for trespassing to the island. There were even stories going around the press that some were going to be held and charged by the government under laws that would allow them to charge people for terrorist actions simply for trying to gain access to government property.

Some of the causes out there were on a mission to find out what was going on out there on Plum Island. They were willing to do anything that they had to do in order to get on the island and find out the truth about what was going on, and to find out if the government really was experimenting with humans and violating laws that were meant to protect people. They were comparing what was going on with Plum Island with what Hitler had done back in World War II.

Then there was one group that wanted to get onto the island at any cost, and they were determined to find out the truth behind what was going on behind those walls. They knew that there had to be someone that could penetrate the complex and find out what was really going on behind those closed doors.

This group was being lead by a man named Peter Garrett. Peter was the type of man that could find just about anything that you needed. He was known around his company to be the go-to man for just about anything. Now the company was calling upon him to go and find the one man that he thought could gain access to the island and find out the information that they needed to know so that they could tell the people what the truth really was about the island.

Peter did his asking around to all of his sources and there was one name that always came up. They all told him that this one man was the one that would be able to get onto the island. They all told him that this one man was the one that they figured could pull off the seemingly impossible task. They all told Peter that this was the one man that was qualified enough to do it, and he was the only name that they all mentioned.

Now that Peter had the name of the man they needed, he just had one more thing to do, and that was find Jacob. Then convince him to do the job, and try not to tell him the true motive for them sending him to the island.

    Chapter 1

Listening to his favorite music on the radio, Peter finds himself driving down the interstate. Tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, bobbing his head with the beat of the drums coming through the speakers, he tries to not think about the huge task before him of finding Jacob and convincing him to go to Plum Island. After driving through the night to make it to the small little town where Jacob is suppose to be living, he finds himself more awake than he thought he would be. Just a few more miles, he thinks to himself as he approaches the sign telling him that his turn off is just a couple more miles ahead.

He turns off the interstate onto the off ramp, then down the country road and into the small town. Pulling into the little town, he looks around to see all of the buildings that line the main street. He slowly drives into town, and can’t get his eyes off of the buildings that remind him of the set of an old cowboy movie. The tops of the buildings are all squared off, and the front walks are all covered and the roof of the walkway continues from one end of the road all the way down to the other end of town. He is in awe of the look of the town, it was to him was like going back in time to the eighteen hundreds. He eventually finds the restaurant in the middle of the town. Thinking that since it is a small town, everyone will know everyone else, and if he is going to have a chance of finding Jacob then the restaurant will be his best bet. It will not hurt that he is hungry from driving through the night and still needing some breakfast in his stomach.

He pulls the car into the parking spot just outside the front door of the restaurant. He steps out of the car, pausing to stretch his arms and legs from the long drive. He glances around the town, and sees people going to and from each of the businesses, some of them taking a look at the new face in town. He wants to seem friendly, so he nicely waves to a few of the people walking down the sidewalk. When he does not get a wave back, he figured it was time to just go inside and get a bite to eat and to see if he can get some information from someone in there.

He walks into the front door of the restaurant, and just like in the old movies, the door strikes a bell that was hanging just above it and the familiar ding rings out. When he steps inside, he sees about a dozen people sitting at different tables around the restaurant. They are all talking until he walks in, then there is a pause in the conversations, as they all took a moment to see the stranger walking in. He smiled, trying to seem friendly, and found himself a table in the corner up by the front main window. He sits down, noticing that the napkins and the table cloth are matching, and it looks like he was sitting down at a table getting ready to have a tea party, all that was missing now was the women and the tea cups. As he was looking around the walls and seeing all of the old tools hanging around, he is approached by the waitress.

He looks to the woman approaching him, and he sees an attractive brunette, with the typical waitress outfit. She had on the knee length dress with the apron around her waist and the lace hair piece holding back the bangs. She was carrying a menu in one hand and in the other hand she had the water pitcher. She walked over to him and said,

Welcome to May’s, here is your menu, I will give you a few minutes to look it over and decide what you would like, I will be back with you in a few moments.

Thank you. Peter told her as she turned to walk back to go attend to some of the other patrons.

He looked over the menu, then he turned and looked out the window. Across the street from the restaurant, he saw the local gun shop. Parked out in front of the shop was a camouflaged pickup truck along with several motorcycles. It was the first time that he had seen a truck painted in that fashion. He could not help but giggle to himself a little at the sight of the truck. He shook his head a little bit, but then his attention on the truck was interrupted by the sound of a soft voice,

Have you decided what you would like? The waitress asked as she stood by his table with her pad in her hand waiting for his order.

I guess I will just take a couple eggs over easy and some bacon. Peter answered as he was handing her the menu back."

Alright, I will get that order in right away. She answered as she took the menu and put the pad back into her apron.

Do you mind if I ask you a question? Peter asked her as he leaned back in his chair and looked at her, trying to seem harmless.

Sure, just be quick, I have other customers to wait on. She answered him as she chomped on her gum and stood there giving him a look as if she was in a hurry to be on her way.

Is there a Jacob Williams that lives around here? He is retired military and probably tries not to be around people too often.

Well, if he don’t want to be around people then why would I know the guy? She answered with a tone that screamed to him that she was just wanting to go about her business.

I was just hoping to find him, I have a job offer that I am hoping he will be interested in. Peter said, trying to get her to ease up and maybe give him the information that he was looking for.

Well, there is one Jacob that lives just outside of town, down the main road. He was in the military, the Rangers I think. He is a pretty private guy, he don’t like visitors unless they are invited. Trust me, he don’t invite too many people to his place. She said as she was turning to walk away.

Thank you for the information. Peter told her as she walked away from him.

He then turned and looked out the window and glanced down the road as far as he could see. Wondering if it was the same Jacob that he was looking for, and if he was going to be welcomed when he showed up or if he was going to be shot
