Chapter 1
It is the third day of Steve camping at this new camp ground. Steve is just your average union carpenter traveling around the country as the jobs become available. He lives out of a camper so that he is able to move around the country where the work is and not be tied down to a home. Steve is quite a good carpenter and specializes in doing the woodwork in personal and corporate jets.
On this particular day he has no reason to think that this day will be any different than any other that he has been through. He wakes up and gets dressed and has his breakfast and jumps in the truck and heads to the airport to work on the jet that is his current job.
His job is not always that great and can mean many long hours. Today is one of those days that will be long, but after putting in a long 14 hours working in the plane Steve packs up his tools and heads to the truck.
As he heads home he is about half way back to the RV park when he decides to stop at a local roadside bar and have a few cold ones. Not that he is in any hurry to get back to the camper as he is a bachelor and no one is waiting on his arrival.
While he is sitting in the little corner table away from everyone else having a good burger and a cold beer, he hears people at the bar talking about something that he has not heard before. The two or three guys sitting up at the bar are talking about an experience that they had while hunting in the woods that day.
Talking amongst themselves he hears them talking about how they made it to the woods just before dawn that morning for some deer hunting. While on their way to their tree stands one talks of hearing something that sounded like it was following him to the tree. While another talks of hearing what sounded like a large animal panting while he was sitting up in his tree stand. He was saying that he could not see anything but it sounded like it was just below him just out of his sight.
The two men were talking about their stands only being about 200 yards apart and each of them hearing something but not being able to see what may have been making the noises.
The third man then chimes in and was telling the others about how they were just hearing things and how they let the local legends of werewolves get to their heads. About how he never hears anything as he is heading to his tree stand and that the other two always seem to hear something every time they go hunting.
After finishing his burger and having a couple beers and getting a chuckle out of hearing a couple hill-billies talk about monsters or werewolves or whatever Steve decides to head on back to the camper and get some sleep knowing tomorrow will be another long day working.
Steve jumps in the truck and heads on down the road towards the RV park. Going down the road takes him through the woods and down a dark lonely road with what seems like it is a million miles from nowhere. Thinking about what the guys at the bar were talking about and getting a good laugh was a good way of passing some time as he heads home.
About a mile from the park Steve is beginning to doze off a little bit from putting in such a long day and taking in a few beers. Suddenly he hears a Ka-thunk Ka-thunk Ka-thunk. Steve knows this sound all too well as the sound of a flat tire and pulls to the side of the road. Although he knows the RV park is just around the bend from where he is he does not want to ruin his tire
