’65 BEETLE

Everyone has their own unique story of how air-cooled VWs got under their skin. Growing up in a family where no one else was interested in cars, I always kind of envied those who were part of a VW family from an early age. Steve Burton from Layton, Utah came from one of those families and he’s built this Sea Blue ’65 to encompass those memories.

When he was growing up, Steve’s grandma, Iona, owned a Pearl White ’66 Beetle with a red interior. This would have been a Pigalle car with red overload. If you’ve never seen a Pigalle Beetle, they were produced for the ’66 model year only (along with Type 3 and Type 34 Pigalles) and had such delights as red carpets, red rubber floor mats and red seat belts.
