    Rain drummed on the roof of the car so hard that Marvin could barely hear himself chew. The car's seals weren't pristine anymore, and he could feel the moisture from the outside spraying or dripping in at random.

    He did the best he could to watch the road, try to stay on it. It was hard to see ahead. Or in any other direction for that matter.

    And his mouth tasted like it was filled with monkeys. He had always hated Chinese food, and this Szechuan stuff wasn't an exception, though Jenny insisted it would be.

    Try it, she had said. It's completely different. So he had tried it. It was different, that's true.

    But he still didn't like it. So now he had something new to dislike. And having to fight the weather did not improve his mood.

    The storm had come out of nowhere.

    He couldn't help noticing that she got Cantonese for herself. Of course she had always liked that. She seemed to be enjoying her Lo-Mien. She was eating carefully because she had on her new pale green blouse, with the frilly sleeves. It looked good on her. Made her blue eyes pop.

    It's fine to have different tastes. Keeps the world interesting.

    The whole car smelled like fried cat.

    Now, Marvin loved cats, but not for dinner. And
