I love to write and have written short stories for as long as I can remember. However, it wasn't until a few years back that I decided to publish my stories. My writing has always been one of my main creative outlets, and I find that I enjoy sharing my stories almost as much as I like writing them. My first novel, Deception Game, came out in 2013. I have always been fascinated by anything that was police procedural, including TV shows and books. So, my first novel was a police procedural. My wife and I of 25 years make our home in the Pineywoods of East Texas. We have two grown children. It is my sincere hope that you get as much enjoyment from reading my books as I do in their creation.

The black BMW 760 Li emerged from one curve and slowed slightly coming into the next, and once clear lurched forward building speed back up. The man watching from the hillside lowered a set of binoculars and raised a radio receiver to his lips.

Once back up to speed the BMW driver passed a sign welcoming him to Happy Valley.

Happy Valley, a place where all are welcomed with open arms, the driver read aloud. Bullshit.

Glancing at his watch he calculated how much longer it would take him to get to the meeting. He decided if he pressed a little harder he would make it with a few minutes to spare. This meeting had been called on the spur of the moment. There was no way to avoid it with millions of dollars of construction projects in the balance. The only thing he couldn’t figure out was why he wanted to meet way the hell out here.

Ignoring the speed limit signs telling him the maximum speed was forty-five he kept a steady sixty as he cruised through the middle of what looked like a ghost town. Suddenly the big luxury car started to slow. The driver pressed the accelerator harder and the car slowed further. Finally, the car came to a full stop in front of an old broken down diner. A sign held up with a chain on one side and a rope on the other advertised it as Grandma’s Place.

The place was in bad need of a paint job and a new roof. Sheets of plywood covered several of the windows. Unlike the hilly, tree-filled landscape that surrounded it, the town looked like someone had taken a bulldozer and cleared a spot for the city and built a road through the middle. There wasn’t a tree in sight.

    Perfect, he grumbled.

Picking up his cell phone he had no service. Throwing the phone back into the passenger seat and slamming
